Your guide will be at your hotel at around 5:30 am to pick you up for our road trip to Soti Khola. The road is sealed up until Dhading Bensi, the district headquarters of Dhading (1050m). After Dhading the road to Arughat is fairly rugged and bumpy. From Arughat we drive for another one and a half hours until we come to Soti Khola where we will stay overnight at a guest house.

Today we follow a mule track and climb up to a path cut into the face of the cliff and then head down to Lapubesi (880m). You will have to be careful here due to the narrow trail. We then head to Nauli Khola (river) crossing a suspension bridge and then follow the trail along the banks of the Budi Gandaki River before reaching coming to Machha Khola (900m). Many trekkers were stranded here after the 2015 earthquake and had to be rescued. Tonight we will stay at a guesthouse in Machha Khola.

The trail zigzags crossing and re-crossing the river with several suspension bridges to cross before we reach the official entrance to Manaslu Conservation Area and Jagat (1410m) - with its characteristic flagstone village square. We will check that this route is passable and may suggest we take another route on a much higher trail on the east side of the river before descending to the old trail near Doban.

We then climb above the convergence of the Buri Gandaki and Shar Khola Rivers and head to Pewa before finally coming to Deng (1860m) where we will stay the night. Many villages in this district suffered widespread damage in the 2015 Nepal earthquake.

We then re-cross the river before coming to Namrung (2660m) which was an earlier customs post in the days when this was the salt route from Tibet. Namrung also suffered extensive damage from the 2015 earthquake. It  has now been rebuilt and there are few signs of the damage caused by the earthquake.

  • Day 9 Day 9: Acclimatization Day At Samagaon.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 9: Acclimatization Day At Samagaon.

At higher altitudes, it is necessary to get acclimatized for at least one day before climbing to higher altitudes. Health specialists recommend that you stay active. To stay active we can explore the Gompa at Pugyen (4070m), a one-day trek that leaves the trail between Syaula and Sama. We can also continue on up this valley to the rocky and rugged terrain of the Pugin Glacier. Another option today is a trek to Birendra Tal (lake - 3450m) and then a tough ascent to Manaslu Base Camp (4900m). The cave north of Birendra Tal is said to be Milarepaโ€™s Cave (famous Buddha saint) where he meditated while on a retreat here.
