  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival In Kathmandu Transfer To Hotel.

      Sherpa Expedition & Trekking staff will be there to meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel that will be followed by a briefing covering all aspects of the trek. You will have time today to explore the tourist hub of Thamel  

  • Day 2 Day 2: Guided Sightseeing In The Kathmandu Valley.

      Day 2: Guided Sightseeing In The Kathmandu Valley.

      We will spend the day sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley with our guide. We will visit: Pashupatinath, which is the most sacred Hindu temple in Nepal and a place where many pilgrims from all over Nepal go to worship Lord Shiva (situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River), Bouddhanath, a Buddhist temple known as โ€˜Little Tibetโ€™ and then to Swayambhunath known as the Monkey Temple. From Swayambhunath we head to Kathmanduโ€™s celebrated Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage listed site situated in front of the old royal palace.

      This morning we will take a public bus from Kathmandu to Besisahar, about a 6 hour ride, from where we  will take a local shared 4WD for another two hours before arriving at Syange Village where we will stay overnight. You will have some great views from Syange Village of Mt. Annapurna II, Manaslu and Mt. Lamjung.

      Just before arriving at Manang we cross a bridge and then follow the trail through terraced farmlands, by waterfalls and on to Koto Village before arriving at Dharapani that is one of the largest villages in the Manang Valley. We will stay here overnight in a guesthouse.

      Today is a much more physically demanding day on the trail as we ascend along some treed ridges on our way to Chame. Instead of looking down, we need to look up to where we will see some enormous snowy peaks: Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV (7,525m). There is also a therapeutic natural hot spring on the trail where we can stop and relax our tired muscles. Tonight we will stay at a guesthouse at Chame.

      This morning we follow the trail through a steep narrow valley from where we have our first view of Paungda Danda, an mammoth curved rock face soaring 1500m up from the river bed. From here we can see Annapurna II and Pisang Peak. We will then head down through a beautiful terrain to the Manang Valley. Tonight we will stay at a guesthouse in Pisang.

      Today we head higher to Ghyaru Village. On the trail we will have some charming views of Annapurna II and other snow covered peaks, as well as views of the glacier of Annapurna IV โ€“ that is plainly visible from Ghyaru. We will stop for lunch at Ghyaru and then head to Ngawal. You will know you are nearing Ngawal Village once you reach the Mani wall and the Tibetan prayer flags fluttering in the wind. At Ngawal we can look down to Humde Village. We then descend to the villages of Bhakra and Braga before arriving at Manang where we will stay in a guesthouse overnight.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Exploration And Acclimatization Day At Manang.

      Day 8: Exploration And Acclimatization Day At Manang.

      It is vigorously recommended by health experts to remain active when spending time acclimatizing. We will take a short trek to Bhojo Gumba โ€“ a monastery, or alternatively to Gangapurna Lake. If we have the energy, we can even trek to Vraga Village where and visit the Himalayan Rescue Association who can inform us about the condition of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Tonight we will stay at a guesthouse in Manang.

      Leaving Manang we cross the river before arriving at Tenki Village and then head up the Marsyangdi Valley through several small villages, such as Ghunsa and pass through some scrubby landscape while heading to higher altitudes. We will see yak and mountain horses grazing on the alpine pastures before we come to Yak Kharka where we will stay overnight at a guesthouse.

      After we pass the last settlement, Lear, the trail ascends and we have some grand views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, Cloche, and a close up view of Chuli Peak. The terrain gets more craggy and devoid of vegetation as we head to higher altitudes. We then pass Thorong Phedi after a lunch break and follow a zigzag trail that takes us to Upper Phedi or High Camp where there are several teahouses and a lodge. We will stay here overnight.

      We get up very early today (at around 3 a.m.) in order to reach the top of the pass on time and before the cold wind starts and to catch the best of the glorious views of the northern Annapurna, Damodar, Bhrikuti and Dhaulagiri ranges. Today is one of the highlights of this trek as we cross one of the highest passes in the world, Thorong La Pass. We cross from east to west, from Manang to Muktinath, which is a safer and easier route than crossing from the other direction. Once at the pass the effort will be well worth it as you will have some really stunning views over the nearby mountains. After a photo session, we will then descend to the valley floor and head down to Muktinath for the night.

      Today the trail descends 1,200 meters to the Kaligandaki River valley, with a short break at the small settlement of Ekle Bhatti - meaning a lonely teahouse. The valley gets very windy in the afternoons as we head to Jomsom and then on to Marpha, a charming village with whitewashed houses, paved streets, and many well-maintained lodges. From here you will have time to try the local apple products like cider, brandy, and juice that this area from Kagbeni to Larjung is famous for. We will stay overnight at Marpha.

      This morning we follow the trail along the banks of the Kaligandaki River heading downstream until we arrive at Tukuche Village located beneath the peaks of Tukuche, Dhaulagiri and beneath Nilgiriโ€™s glacier that heads down from Dhaulagiri east face. Next we arrive at Larjung Village and cross the river before heading up to the tree-line again where the trail takes us through pine, oak and rhododendron forests. The trail then heads back to the river close to Kalopani Village. We cross a suspension bridge over the thunderous Kali Gandaki River near Kalopani. From Kalopani we have superb views of Mt.Annapurna I, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri soaring high above the surrounding forests. We then have a short downhill trek to Lete Village where we will stay overnight.

      This morning we descend from the more barren and harsh alpine regions through pine and other conifer forests as we head down the valley between the immense Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. The trail heads through Ghasa Village with spectacular views of the snowy peaks and into a cooler climate. Not far from Ghasa is the southernmost tip of the region inhabited by the Thakali people. The trail continues downhill into the sub-tropical regions before reaching Tatopani (meaning hot water in Nepali). On this leg of the trail, we can see the cascading Rupsi waterfalls. The hot springs at Tatopani are situated on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River โ€“ a great place to sit and relax in the hot springs. We will stay here overnight.

      This morning we climb 1670 metres, quite tough going, and pass through more cultivated farmland with their terraced fields. We ascend up through magnolia and rhododendron forests (most spectacular in spring time) and on the trail have some beautiful panoramic view of the mountains. Tonight we stay at Ghorepani that also claims to have some very exceptional views of the Annapurna Ranges and Machapuchare (fish tail) -  one of the few unclimbed peaks in Nepal due to its religious status as home to Lord Shiva. 

  • Day 16 Day 16: Hike Up To Poon Hill (3,210M) & Trek Down To Tikhedhunga (1,560M) Duration 6-7 Hours.

      Today we are up before sunrise so as to reach Poon Hill to catch the sun rising up over the mountains. It is about a hour trek to reach Poon Hill (3,210m) where the views are truly spectacular. The mountains are beaming in the perfect light of the morning, reflecting various changing colors off the snow-white peaks. After frantically snapping photos we will head back down to Ghorepani (2960m) for breakfast. From Ghorepani we ascend along mountain ridges and through rhododendron and pine forests before coming to Deurali (2,960m). We then continue to descend and come to a cross-road at Banthanti and then head to Tikhedhunga where we will stay the night.

      Leaving Tikhedhunga we descend through farming villages and pass several waterfalls before reaching the charismatic village of Birethanti located right next to the Modi River where we will stop for lunch. After lunch we trek for another 30 minutes until we reach Nayapul where we head by jeep back to Pokhara where we will stay at Lakeside (next to Few Tal - lake). You will have time to walk beside the lake, take a boat ride and browse the many shops along the main shopping strip. Tonight we can party and celebrate the end of our amazing adventure into the Annapurna Ranges.

      This morning we travel by bus back to Kathmandu and on arrival taken to our hotels in Thamel. You can spend the rest of the day exploring Kathmandu or just wander around Thamel and sit in a cafรฉ or bar and celebrate โ€“ again, the successful completion of your adventure in the Annapurna Conservation Area.
