  • Day 2 Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour

Today, at early in the morning, the Kathmandu valley Sightseeing tour will start, with a first visit to the holy Pashupatinath temple. It lies on the banks of the Bagmati River and is one of the most revered holy sites of the Hindu people. The Pashupatinath is built in the pagoda style architecture and contains many smaller shrines outside the main temple as well. It is also the cremation site of many Hindu people and sometimes, the ceremony being performed can be experienced as well. Then, the nest site on the tour is the holy Bouddhanath stupa. It is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world and is located about 11 km from the center and northeastern outskirts of the city. The influx of large populations of refugees from Tibet has seen the construction of over 50 Gompas (Tibetan convent) around Bouddhanath. The Stupa is on the ancient trade route from Tibet which enters the Kathmandu Valley by the village of Sankhu in the northeast corner. Tibetan merchants have rested and offered prayers here for many centuries. The next site in the tour is the Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is known as the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, a name derived from a statue of Hanuman, the monkey devotee of Lord Ram, at the entrance of the royal palace. The Durbar at the Durbar square was the royal Nepalese residence until the 19th century and was where important ceremonies, such as the coronation of the Nepalese monarch, took place. The palace is decorated with elaborately-carved wooden windows and panels and houses the King Tribhuwan Memorial Museum and the Mahendra Museum. Time and again the temples and the palaces in the square have gone through reconstruction after being damaged by natural causes or neglect. Presently there are less than ten quadrangles in the square. On 25 April 2015, an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.9 hit the region and severely damaged the Square, reducing several buildings to rubble. The oldest temples in the square are those built by King Mahendra Malla (1560โ€“1574). They are the temples of Jaggannath, Kotilingeswara Mahadev, Mahendreswara and the Taleju Temple. More and more temples and statues were added to the Square under different ruling kings over time. It is one of the most architecturally intricate showcases of Nepali art and the unique Newa architecture. Then finally, the last site of the tour is the Swayambhunath Stupa- an ancient religious architecture atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. For the Buddhist Newari people, in whose mythological history and origin myth as well as day-to-day religious practice Swayambhunath occupies a central position, it is probably the most sacred among Buddhist pilgrimage sites. For Tibetans and followers of the Tibetan Buddhism, it is second only to Bouddha. After visiting each site, we will head back to the Hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

We will follow the Dudh Koshi as we ascend through Himalayan pine and cedar forests to the celebrated village of Namche Bazaar. The village of Namche is a historic trading post where Nepalese and Tibetan traders exchanged salt, dried meat and textiles in ancient times. Besides being a splendid destination to shop for traditional crafts, Namche remains the central trading post in the Khumbu that attracts Himalayan and lowland merchants. The views of the Kongdi RI and of the Thamserku mountain peaks from Namche are quite spectacular. The village lies on a side of a hill and has an amphitheatre-like appearance, with houses built on terrace-like terrains. You will spend two days at Namche for acclimatization, visit local markets and spend time with your team. The uniform and easy trail from Namche leads us towards the view of Mount Everest from where we will be descending deep into the Dudh Koshi Valley at Phungki Thanka. From this point, the path ascends the right flank of the Dudh Koshi valley to the Tengboche Monastery (3860m). The monastery is the spiritual center of the Khumbu. It is decorated with amazing Buddhist artwork on the walls and painted with soft pastel colors. You can light a butter-lamp in the monastery and have a little prayer as well. The climb is lengthy, but is more than adequately compensated by gorgeous views of Mount Ama Dablam and on clear days, views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks. Tengboche lies on the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and the Imja Rivers and the ridges around the village are covered in alpine woods. Dingboche has a kilometer long wall that is built to protect the village crops from the cold sweeping draft that sweeps through the valley of Khumbu. The village has many Mani stone walls and well. After a short rest, you will then start the descent back to Dingboche and the walk at altitude takes about 2 hours. After lunch, you can take a well deserved rest, as afternoon temperatures could drop rapidly as the sun sets over the mountain tops. You will also spend a second night in Dingboche. Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Dingboche, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
