Accommodation

4 nightsโ€™ standard accommodation in a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu on a twin sharing basis including 4 breakfasts. Guesthouse accommodation during the trek in mostly twin-share and occasionally dormitory-style rooms.

Additionally, please note that during the months of March to May and September to November, all flights will depart from Ramechhap.       A representative from Sherpa Expedition Teams will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel โ€“ the tourist hub of Kathmandu and the place to buy those last-minute items you may require on the trek.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Guided Sightseeing Of The Kathmandu Valley.

      Today we go sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley and will visit Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in Nepal and a place where pilgrims worship Lord Shiva (situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River), Bouddhanath, a Tibetan Buddhist temple also known as โ€˜Little Tibetโ€™ and then on to Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple). From Swayambhunath we head to Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site opposite the old royal palace.

      A morning scenic flight of 30 to 40-minute takes us to Tenzing Hilary Airport at Lukla. We then follow the trail along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River toward Phakding where we stay overnight.

      Today we follow the Dudh Koshi River and cross several suspension bridges before arriving at the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint where they check our permits. We then head up through a thick forest that can be quite strenuous as we head higher. We also get our first view of Mt. Everest towering above us. We then come to Namche Bazaar, a village where trekkers get together before heading further into the mountains.

      It is necessary for you to acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. Health professionals recommend you stay active and keep on the move during this period. We will take a trek to Thame or alternatively visit Khunde. We may explore Namche Bazaar, the commercial hub of the Everest Khumbu region. On Friday evening or on Saturday you will have a chance to visit the regular weekly market. Your guide may also take you higher up the mountain to the Tourist Visitor Centre close to the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park. It is a fascinating place that displays many pieces of equipment and relics from the early mountaineers. You can also learn about the Sherpa people and the flora and fauna in the region.

      On the trail to Tengboche, we have some grand views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse Shar, Taboche, Khangtega, and Thamserku peaks. Further down the trail, we come to an army post at Phunke Tenga. The afternoon is free for us to visit the Buddhist monastery at Tengboche.

      Today we have an easy trek to Dingboche โ€“ apart from for the last part where we have to climb a steep hill which will remind us that trekking at higher altitudes is more physically arduous. We will pass through the villages of Somare (4010m) and Orsho along the way. We then come to a fork on the trail and take the left trail that heads to Pheriche Village and then cross a bridge before the steep climb up to Dingboche Village (4410m).

      Once again we have to acclimatize. In order to stay active, strongly recommended by health specialists, we will climb 400 meters to Nangkartshang Gompa that is perched on a ridge just north of Dingboche Village. From here we have some great views of Mt. Makalu (8,463m), the worldโ€™s fifth highest mountain, and Mt. Ama Dablam. If you are feeling energetic then we can head up to the summit at Nangkartshang (5090m).

      Today we follow the trail to Dughla Village and then cross the moraine at the base of the Khumbu Glacier, having first crossing slopes covered with boulders. We then head up to Chupki Lhara that has an assortment of stones with prayer flags placed as a memorial to climbers Scott Fischer (American) and ten-time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese guide) who died while trying to climb Mt. Everest. On the way to the Khumbu Glacier moraine a number of huge peaks are clearly visible before us: Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. This scene will leave you in awe. 

  • Day 10 Day 10: Trek To Gorak Shep (5,180M) & Visit Everest Base Camp ( 5,364M) Duration 8-9 Hours.

      We are slowly getting closer to EBC, gradually climbing higher passing Gorakshep Lake and then further on come to a memorial that honors Indian mountaineers who have died on the mountain. Walking now is going to be more physically taxing as a result of the thinner air at this high altitude. The trail has rocks, moraine and streams to cross before we come to EBC. The first thing we see on arrival at EBC is the distinct selection of colorful tents of mountaineers who are waiting for the right conditions before attempting a climb to the summit of Mt. Everest. From EBC we can clearly see Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori and the snow shimmering off their peaks. After a rest and scout around EBC we head back to Gorak Shep for a good nightโ€™s rest.

      We are up early in the pre-dawn darkness, with temperatures around -10 to -14C and head up to Kala Patthar. There is also the likelihood of strong winds that will add to the chill factor. In the east are the peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. Everest also starts to make an appearance. After reaching the summit of Kala Patthar we will be delighted as we take in the 360 degree views and Mt. Everest that appears right before our eyes. Make sure to have your camera out and to take some grand photos of Everest that will be a reminder of this spectacle years later. We will then descend to Pangboche.

      This morning we head down to Debouche and through rhododendron forest before arriving at Tengboche, well-known for its Buddhist monastery as well as some fantastic views of the surrounding snow-covered peaks. We then head down to Phunki Thenga (3,250m/10,663ft) on the banks of the Imja Khola (river), continue to Sanasa and to Namche Bazaar.

      On our last day, we head to the village of Monju. We follow the same trail as before to Lukla via Phakding. On the trail, we have far-reaching views down over the valleys inhabited by Sherpa villagers. After arriving at Lukla we have time to explore the village. In the evening we will have a celebration dinner with our guide and fellow travelers on the successful finale of the EBC trek.

      This morning we have a short 30 to 40-minute scenic flight back to Kathmandu and can look down over the vast Himalayan landscape. On arrival at Kathmandu, we will take you back to your hotel. You can spend the remainder of the day sightseeing or shopping around the winding and narrow streets of Thamel before your departure tomorrow.

      Today is a spare day in the event bad weather prevents us from achieving certain goals along the trail.
