7-day Trekking Tour From Khevsureti To Tusheti Through Atsunta Pass

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer Tbilisi – Shatili

Stop At: Shatili, Shatili, Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region
Our minivan will be ready to pick up everyone at our office at 9AM. The journey takes 5 hours. Total distance – 150 km. On the way, we will stop in picturesque places, including Bear Cross pass (2,676m), where we will have a picnic. In Shatili, after we get our rooms in the guest house, we will have enough time to walk around the medieval city, carefully explore it and take some great photos. In the evening, a traditional dinner awaits us. It will be prepared by owners of the guest house.

Day 2: Drive to Ardoti and hike to Camp#1

Stop At: Ardoti, Georgia
After breakfast we jump in a jeeps and drive to Ardoti, the place where the road ends. On the way we will make a stop in Anatori, and medieval abandoned city of Mutso. There we will need to present our passports to border guards of Georgia. Formalities will take about 20 minutes. After picnic we will start our trekking route. Hiking will take about 4 hours. Arriving at the Camp, we will put up tents, and we will rest waiting for a dinner.

Day 3: Camp#1 – Atsunta pass – Camp#2

Stop At: Atsunta Pass, Georgia
Difficult day. The trail passes through one of the highest pass in the country – Atsunta pass (3431 m), which divides two regions - Khevsureti and Tusheti.

Day 4: Camp#2 – Girevi village

Stop At: Girevi, Girevi, Kakheti Region
The trail slowly goes down along Pirikiti Alazani river. The route is simple, but quite long – about 20 km. Along the way there is several shepherd's houses and one more abandoned stone city - Chontio. This day we will get to civilization – Girevi village, where people live, and where is some guest houses, in one of which we will stay.

Day 5: Girevi village – Dartlo village

Stop At: Dartlo, Dartlo, Kakheti Region
Easy day – only four hours along jeep road. By lunch time, we will come in Dartlo village. This beautiful and unique place claims to be included in the World Heritage List. After lunch we have time to hike uphill to Kvavlo village. This night we will spend in a stone house built according to local traditions.

Day 6: Transfer Dartlo – Omalo and horse riding

Stop At: Omalo, Omalo, Kakheti Region
First, we drive to Omalo – the largest village of Tusheti. We leave our stuff in a guest house and go for a horse riding. We will visit the village of Shenako and the village of Diklo and for dinner we will return to Omalo.

Day 7: Transfer Omalo – Tbilisi

Stop At: Tbilisi, Tbilisi
In the city of Alvani, we will change our jeeps for a comfortable bus and go to one of the wineries in Kakheti. There we will have a festive lunch. This day we are leaving Tusheti. 60km of unpaved road. Long journey through the highest automobile pass in Europe – Abano Pass. In the city of Alvani, we will change our jeeps for a comfortable bus and go to one of the wineries in Kakheti, where we will have a lunch. We will arrive in Tbilisi around 5PM.
