Upon commencing your 13-day budget Japan tour, you will rendezvous with your Adventure Leader in the foyer of the Tokyo hostel in the morning. After depositing your luggage, a briefing ensues where you’ll peruse the itinerary and acquaint yourself with fellow travellers.

Later, we embark on our inaugural destination – the Tsukiji Outer Market. During lunchtime, relish in the opportunity to savour delectable fresh sashimi! Next, we venture into the Asakusa District, where we shall explore the magnificent Sensō-Ji temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple.

Following this, take in the breathtaking vistas from atop the Metropolitan Government Building, followed by optional activities. You may opt to indulge in one of Japan’s national passions (baseball, at a local batting cage) or unwind with a libation – or immerse yourself with the locals at a nearby bathhouse.
Day 2 Sushi Making Class

Sushi Making Class

In the morning, partake in a memorable lesson on the Japanese art of sushi-making from a sushi chef, followed by a tasting of your creations.

Later, explore Akihabara, Japan’s ‘Electric Town’ and nucleus of Anime. It also houses Japan’s renowned J-pop group, AKB48. Discover venues devoted to manga and games, including the Tokyo Anime Center. Here, engage in an optional ‘Made in Tokyo’ experience at one of Akihabara’s maid cafes. Spend the afternoon either exploring the city further independently or opt for a thrilling optional activity: Kartoon Karting!

Come evening, convene at Golden Gai for a guided tour of the street, followed by an immersion into Japanese nightlife at a local bar.

Optional Activity: Drive around the iconic streets of Tokyo with a Kartoon Karting experience! This activity needs to be prebooked at least 6 weeks before the tour.
Day 3 Tokyo Imperial Palace & Shibuya Crossing

Commence your morning with an early excursion to the Tokyo Imperial Palace. While there, explore the Nijubashi Bridge and the Imperial Palace’s resplendent gardens.

Upon conclusion, venture to the Sumo District. Embark on a journey with your Adventure Leader through stadiums, stables, and all things summer. At lunchtime, either wander solo or partake in an additional optional activity, mingling with ex-sumo wrestlers for a traditional sumo lunch of tonkatsu and chanko-nabe.

Early afternoon, pay a visit to the Sumo Museum, a veritable trove replete with all things sumo wrestling. [Note: If the Museum is closed, we shall visit Edo Noren instead.]

Return to the accommodation in the mid-afternoon, ideally positioned for independent exploration of Tokyo for the remainder of the day. This evening, we recommend exploring the vibrant nightlife of Roppongi.

Optional Activity: Optional activity: Sumo experience with lunch. This is a rare opportunity where you can interact with ex-sumo wrestlers and enjoy Tonkatsu (Japanese Pork Cutlet) and Chanko-Nabe for lunch. This activity needs to be prebooked at least 8 weeks before the tour.

Embark on our day at the Meiji Shrine, an iconic locale in Tokyo dedicated to the revered Emperor Meiji – renowned for propelling Japan into the industrial era. Equally significant is its dedication to his consort, the Empress Shōken.

Thereafter, proceed to Harajuku – Tokyo’s premier fashion district, where encounters with punks, goths, and technicolour hair are the norm! Here, immerse yourself in the vibrant streets, from secondhand shops like Chicago to esteemed eateries. Subsequently, head to Shibuya, home to the world’s busiest pedestrian crossing, witnessing millions traversing daily.

As the afternoon wanes, indulge in various activities of your choice. Options include:

The Hokusai Museum in Ryogoku, celebrating the life and work of the renowned painter of the Great Wave of Kanagawa.

Joypolis in Odaiba, an expansive indoor amusement park, or a leisurely stroll along the waterfront.

Experience teamLab Planets, a vast art gallery showcasing immersive installations blending the natural and digital realms.

Explore Toyosu Market for a further gastronomic exploration of the freshest fish in the city.

Bid adieu to the capital and journey to your next destination on the budget Japan tour – the picturesque coastal town of Kamakura. Arriving by mid-morning, ample time is allotted for checking into accommodation before embarking on a quest for lunch.

Post-meal, embark on a tour of the town, exploring its myriad ancient shrines. Witness the awe-inspiring Kotoku-in Temple, home to the colossal Great Buddha statue – a UNESCO World Heritage site. Following this, trek to the Zeniarai Benzaiten Ugafuku Shrine, a stunning example of Buddhist-Shinto amalgamation. Return to Kamakura, where the afternoon offers leisurely exploration or relaxation.

Next, embark on a scenic cruise on Lake Ashi aboard a pirate ship, offering panoramic views, including the iconic Mount Fuji on cloudless days. Disembarking, ascend the Hakone Ropeway to Owakudani, an active volcanic zone, where you can purchase and try the renowned black eggs, reputedly adding seven years to life expectancy.

Day 10 Golden Pavilion & Travel To Hiroshima

Start the day with a local exploration of Kyoto by bike! Embark on a half-day cycling tour to traverse the city like a native. Begin with a visit to a local Zen temple, where a meditation session led by a Buddhist monk awaits, followed by a traditional tea ceremony.

Afterwards, enjoy a brief lunch break before heading to witness Kyoto’s emblematic sight – the Golden Pavilion at Kinkaku-Ji. Subsequently, explore the Imperial Palace grounds, capturing final memories of this remarkable city.

In the afternoon, board another bullet train destined for Hiroshima, marking the next stop on our budget Japan tour. Upon arrival in the evening, the group has the option to dine together at Okonomiyaki Village, indulging in traditional local cuisine.
