Check out the weird and wonderful fish at this bustling market. Hakone: Tour this beautiful mountain town, famed for its views of Mount Fuji. And get your kicks on the epic cable car ride. Hakone: Nothing beats sitting down to enjoy a slap up meal. This is portion after portion of authentic Japanese cuisine at its finest. Matsumoto: The towering โ€˜Black Crowโ€™ castle is a national treasure. It looks like a Samurai castle with its blossoming cherry trees and Alpine backdrop. Takayama: The wooden โ€˜Edoโ€™ buildings of Takayama really capture the vibe of ancient Japan. Hiroshima: This way to amazing! These are the sites you always see in those impossibly tranquil pictures of Japan. IRL. Hiroshima: Visit the Peace Park and Peace Memorial Museum to commemorate the lives lost after the atomic bomb was dropped on the city. Kyoto: Tea houses. Nijo Castle. The Golden Pavilion. Geishas. Itโ€™s all so surreal. Youโ€™ll feel like youโ€™ve wandered into a film set. Kyoto: Walk through the endless path of orange torii gates, kindly ask Inari for good luck and then you might want to sample a fortune cookie. Koyasan: Take off your shoes, enter the golden doors and marvel at the wonders. Then chill in the rock garden. And breathe... Koyasan: Start your journey towards enlightenment at this spiritual ceremony in Mount Koya. And breatheโ€ฆ

3-star hotels are the name of the game, plus you'll get the chance to shack-up in a traditional Ryokan, as well as a Shukubo up on Mount Koya. We like to keep it intrepid, but there's no compromise on comfort.

Hygieneprotocol

All guests travelling with Contiki through December 31, 2022 are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, which may include a booster shot to keep the vaccination status current and valid, depending on the travel destination. Children not eligible for vaccination and/or booster at the time of travel must provide a verifiable and negative Covid-19 test result, taken within 72 hours prior to the start of the tour (taking time zones into consideration) for all tours departing until December 31, 2022. For guests travelling with Contiki from 1 January 2023, Covid-19 vaccinations and boosters are highly recommended, but no longer required. Please note that regardless of time of travel guests will need to comply with specific vaccine and/or booster requirements imposed by airlines and/or authorities in the destination visited, as well as requirements for accessing restaurants and venues, which may be more restrictive than above.       Today we'll bounce out of bed ready and raring to uncover Tokyo. The ancient Buddhist temple of Asakusa Senso-ji, the lake woven grounds of the Imperial Palace & the Meiji Jingu shrine are just some of the doors we will open to this city. If history and religion don't get you going, the wild fashion of Harajuku & the shopping district of Nakamise Street might see you more wide-eyed. Or perhaps your idea of fun is to take to the streets of Shibuya, attempting to cross the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world.

      Today is yours to take on Tokyo your way. Check out the anime and electronics packed buildings of Akihabara or perhaps find a cat cafรฉ and do some petting while you sip your tea, or check out the beautiful Ueno Park.
