Guide

This is an intimate small group experience with the minimum of one guide for every 10 guests. All our voyages include a highly experienced and passionate expedition leader and an additional guide. They will share their knowledge and passion with you throughout the trip so you get to learn about the wildlife and environment of South Georgia. They are trained in polar bear protection and will accompany you at all times when visiting the shore.

Meals

All meals are included. Our chef will prepare 3 fresh, hearty meals a day. On the day of boarding, dinner is included and on the day of departure, breakfast is served. Soft drinks are also included along with tea and coffee. Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase at the bar.

This voyage takes place on Polar Pioneer and takes just 48 guests. We love this vessel because she was built for the polar regions and is a very strong and capable vessel to explore the ice with. She takes just 48 passengers offering the lowest group numbers in Antarctica and South Georgia. She has a large deck space with raised areas making her perfect for photography. She features a large passenger saloon with bar, and an onboard sauna to warm up in after a day in the cold. She is crewed by a team of experts with decades of experience navigating polar waters, and is an ideal vessel for guests looking to go on a real expedition with an authentic expedition vessel. There is accommodation for 48 guests across twins, triple cabins and suites. She is equipped with Zodiacs that can accommodate all guests for shore landings and exploring.   • Day 1 Day 1: Port Stanley - Falkland Islands

      Day 1: Port Stanley - Falkland Islands

      The trip will depart from and return to Port Stanley on the Falkland Islands with domestic flight connections to Santiago, Chile. In the afternoon we step aboard our vessel Polar Pioneer in Port Stanley ready for an adventure of a life time. We will leave the dock in the late afternoon and set sail towards South Georgia.

      Day 2-3: Sailing To South Georgia

      Our crossing of the Scotia sea offers opportunities for wildlife spotting before we even land. We may have wandering albatrosses following the ship and see orcas and other whales from the deck. To ensure you are well prepared to explore South Georgia, our team will provide lectures on the island's wildlife, history and geology. We will arrive South Georgia in the afternoon of day 3 at sea.

      Travelling on a small expedition vessel allows us to visit many sites along the coast that larger ships are not allowed to land and get closer to South Georgiaยดs incredible nature. South Georgia is home to a population of 450,000 king penguins offering some of the largest quantities of wildlife on Earth. Our goal is to visit as many wildlife sites as possible. We want to immerse ourselves in one of the moste incredible natural wonders on the planet and therefore we aim to visit the penguin breeding colonies at Gold Harbour, St Andrewยดs Bay and Salisbury Plain. What makes this trip even more special is our vessel takes just 48 guests and when you are ashore you will be in a small group of just 12 guests for an intimate wildlife and photography experience.
