Day 2: Transfer To Vescona And Hike To Asciano

After a short transfer, you will begin a long hike through the heart of the Crete Senesi area, enjoying great views of the rolling hills with farmhouses and cypress-lined country roads, crossing the famous "Biancane di Leonina" and the "Sito Transitorio". The route to Vescona winds through small ravines and ocher-colored clayey farmland; the gently undulating grain fields, which take on different colors depending on the season, are always a feast for the eyes. Day 3: Hike From Asciano To Serre Di Rapolano

This is an easy hike in the heart of the Crete Senesi. Enjoy the great views of the famous rolling hills of Tuscany, complemented by old stone houses and rows of cypress trees. When it rains, the ground can become muddy and slippery due to the clay soil, and the thermal baths in Rapolano are the perfect place to soak up the Tuscan warmth in the afternoon. Then it's back on the trail for the final kilometers to your destination today, Serre di Rapolano. Beyond Serre di Rapolano you will have the opportunity to admire the landscape formed by the travertine quarries. Then you leave the Crete Senesi and enter the oak woods that still separate you from Sinalunga. After admiring Gimignanello in the distance, you will pass through the medieval village of Scrofiano. If it is not possible to spend the night in Farneta, take the train from Sinalunga to Montepulciano and hike to Petrignano del Lago, where you will spend the night (ascent 193m, descent 117m, 11km, 3 hours). Day 6: Hike From Farneta To Cortona

This is a long but easy hike across the plains and hills of the Valdichiana. From here on, the path coincides with that of another ancient pilgrimage route: the Via Romea Germanica, for which you will find the waymark. Continue along a flat and not particularly shady path that winds through small hamlets. After reaching the ancient parish church of San Michele, you begin the climb to Cortona, the final destination of your journey. You can avoid the climb by taking the alternative route to the Camucia Cortona train station and from there the bus to Cortona. If you stayed overnight in Pertignano del Lago, today you will hike from Pertignano del Lago to Cortona (ascent 193m, descent 117m, 11km, 3 hours).
