Originally established as a community-driven initiative to protect the biodiversity of the southern coast, it has since transformed into a fully operational hatchery and rescue center dedicated to the conservation of endangered turtle species. Through the unwavering efforts of devoted teams, the center conducts studies, provides care, and ensures the protection of these invaluable turtles.

      Following your visit to the hatchery, proceed to Balapitiya, just a brief 10-minute drive away, to embark on a boat safari along the Madu River, which lasts approximately one hour. Situated near Galle in the southern part of the island, the Madu River offers a sanctuary for nature enthusiasts. Enclosed within the Dutch Fort, weโ€™ll wander along the ramparts, spanning from Point Utrecht bastion to Flag Rock bastion, offering panoramic views of the ancient harbor, historically known as Tarshish. Along the route, weโ€™ll pass significant landmarks such as the District Court and the original Fort entrance, leading us to the Dutch Reformed Church, built in the 17th century. Venturing beyond the Fort, weโ€™ll explore the New Town, which endured extensive damage from the 2004 tsunami. Here lies the renowned International cricket stadium, which has since been reconstructed.
