Upon crossing the threshold adorned with a moonstone, you’ll encounter a stone carving depicting the Indian goddess Lakshmi. Inside, the walls are adorned with frescoes depicting the Buddhist interpretation of hell. Following your visit to the hatchery, proceed to Balapitiya, just a brief 10-minute drive away, to embark on a boat safari along the Madu River, which lasts approximately one hour. Situated near Galle in the southern part of the island, the Madu River offers a sanctuary for nature enthusiasts. After breakfast, we’ll commence a guided City Tour within Galle Fort, a historic enclave dating back to the 17th century and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enclosed within the Dutch Fort, we’ll wander along the ramparts, spanning from Point Utrecht bastion to Flag Rock bastion, offering panoramic views of the ancient harbor, historically known as Tarshish. Along the route, we’ll pass significant landmarks such as the District Court and the original Fort entrance, leading us to the Dutch Reformed Church, built in the 17th century. Venturing beyond the Fort, we’ll explore the New Town, which endured extensive damage from the 2004 tsunami. Here lies the renowned International cricket stadium, which has since been reconstructed.
