      Arriving in Cusco, you’ll be met by a member of our staff before heading through the mountains to our hotel in Cusco for the evening. After a delicious welcome dinner, we’ll stroll around the surrounding streets to view

  • Day 2 Tour The Inca Ruins And The City Of Cusco

      Tour The Inca Ruins And The City Of Cusco

      After breakfast we’ll enjoy a tour of the Inca ruins around Cusco, some of the oldest in Peru; these include Sacsayhuaman, Pucapucara, Qenqo, and Tambomachay. After exploring the ruins and surrounding countryside, we’ll take a tour of the city’s most important sites: the Cathedral, San Blas Church, and Koricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional lunch. We’ll then head to our home for the week in the quaint village of Andahuaylillas and stay in a century-old hacienda, set in a valley hemmed in by the Andes Mountains. (B,L,D)

      Introduction To The Local Community And Children

      This morning we’ll take a tour of the area’s historic cathedrals before an introduction to a local after-school program, which is "home" to children between the ages of 7-12. Our purpose here is to build bridges of friendship and cultural interaction through arts & crafts, games, and by helping with English homework. This afternoon, we’ll learn the secrets of Peruvian cuisine at a cooking demonstration. (B,L,D)

  • Day 4 Make Traditional Peruvian Dolls And Begin Teaching

      Make Traditional Peruvian Dolls And Begin Teaching

      After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a workshop with a group of women from the community who make dolls utilizing local textiles and colorful Peruvian fabrics. These women have been carrying on the tradition through the years and will show you how to make your own doll. This afternoon we’ll continue our time with the after-school program in the small village of Andahuaylilas participating in either a sack race, kite flying, soccer game, or whatever else may be on their minds!       Experience A Traditional Shaman Ceremony And Visit An All-Boys Orphanage

      This morning will be one to remember as we attend a traditional shamanic ceremony and make offerings to Mother Earth, or Pachamama. Afterwards, venture 30 minutes outside of our hacienda to visit an all-boys orphanage and play sports and continue cultural interaction - a benefit that we have found goes beyond teaching. (B,L,D)

      Visit The Q’Ewar Project In Andahuaylillas

      Today we visit the Q’ewar Project, which works to empower the community of Andahuaylillas through doll making and jewelry making. We’ll take a tour of the premises, which include a preschool, volunteer housing, ceramic studio, doll making studios and gardens. You will see firsthand how the local women sew, knit, stuff and dress the dolls, which are eventually sold overseas, and even try your hand at jewelry making with a professional silversmith! (B,L,D)

  • Day 7 Visit The Home Of A Local Family

      Visit The Home Of A Local Family

      Today we’ll visit the homes of the women from the Q’ewar Project and experience life in this rural region. Depending on their needs, we may also help out on a small project here. This afternoon sees our final volunteering session at the after-school program, before we enjoy dinner at the hacienda with the students who we have come to know quite well! (B,L,D)

  • Day 9 Explore Machu Picchu

      An early-morning train (as early 3:30am) takes us through the mountains and to the famous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, where we’ll spend the midmorning marveling at this iconic archaeological masterpiece before a

      lunch in Aguas Calientes. Later in the afternoon, we will take the train back for our final dinner in Cusco. (B,L,D)
