    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Paro To Thimphu (2300M) (L/D)

You will be flown to Paro, Bhutan, where youโ€™ll be treated to stunning views of the Himalayan range. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, youโ€™ll be greeted by your guide.

To help you acclimate to the altitude, weโ€™ll start with some light sightseeing. Youโ€™ll be driven through Paro Valley to Thimphu, passing the silver-toned Pa Chu (Paro River) as it meanders through dense forests, and observing landmarks like the Paro Dzong (fortress) and Ta Dzong (watchtower).

In the afternoon, weโ€™ll visit the Tashicho Dzong, a magnificent fortress and monastery that houses the Secretariat building, the Kingโ€™s Throne Room, and various government offices. It also serves as the summer residence of the chief abbot or spiritual leader, Je-Khenpo. Youโ€™ll also have the opportunity to explore the Handicrafts Emporium, where you can view and purchase a range of beautifully hand-woven and crafted items, including the renowned traditional thangkha paintings.

Our next stop will be the Memorial Chorten, a stunning stupa dedicated to Bhutanโ€™s third King. The interior paintings and statues offer profound insights into Buddhist philosophy.

You will stay overnight at Hotel Riverview in Thimphu. Meals: Lunch & Dinner.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing (B/L/D)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing (B/L/D)

Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, is a charming town with a population of around 90,000, known for its relaxed atmosphere and tree-lined streets. In the morning, weโ€™ll embark on a 15-minute guided walk to the Memorial Chorten, a shrine built in honor of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, who wished to establish a monument for world peace and prosperity. The Memorial Chorten is a popular place for Bhutanese to gather, pray, and engage in the practice of circumambulating while murmuring mantras and spinning prayer wheels.

Our sightseeing continues with a visit to the Zilukha Nunnery on the outskirts of Thimphu, where 70 nuns reside and manage their daily activities. The views from the nunnery are truly spectacular. Next, weโ€™ll explore the Changangkha Lhakhang, an ancient temple with significant cultural importance.

Weโ€™ll also visit a traditional paper factory, where you can observe the process of making paper from the daphne plant. The factory produces a unique type of paper known as rice paper, which is said to be more durable than regular paper.

In the evening, weโ€™ll drive past Trashichhoedzong, the โ€œFortress of the Glorious Religion,โ€ which serves as the center of both government and religion. This impressive structure houses the monarchโ€™s throne room and the seat of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot). Originally built in 1641 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the fortress was reconstructed in the 1960s using traditional Bhutanese methods, without nails or modern architectural techniques.

      Overnight stay in Thimphu.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Thimphu โ€“ Punakha (B/L/D)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Thimphu โ€“ Punakha (B/L/D)

In the morning, youโ€™ll be driven to Punakha, Bhutanโ€™s former winter capital. En route, weโ€™ll ascend to Dochu-la Pass, where weโ€™ll take a brief stop to enjoy the panoramic views and admire the chorten, mani wall, and prayer flags that adorn the highest point on the road. On a clear day, you can see several peaks including (left to right): Masagang (7,158m), Tsendagang (6,960m), Terigang (7,060m), Jejegangphugang (7,158m), Kangphugang (7,170m), Zongphugang (7,060m), and the isolated Lunana regionโ€™s table mountain. Dominating the skyline is Gangkar Puensum, Bhutanโ€™s highest peak at 7,497m.

Next, weโ€™ll continue to Punakha Valley to visit the Punakha Dzong. Built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, the dzong served as the regionโ€™s religious and administrative center. Despite suffering damage from four major fires and an earthquake, it has been meticulously restored by the current King.

If time allows, we can plan a picnic lunch at Chedebji Chorten (Stupa), which resembles Swayambhunath in Kathmandu. Constructed by Lama Shida to subdue a mischievous local spirit, this spot is a popular pilgrimage site and picnic location for Bhutanese traveling the east-west road.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Punakha To Paro (4 Hours) (B,L,D)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Upon reaching Paro, weโ€™ll visit Ta Dzong, originally built as a watchtower to defend Rinpung Dzong during 17th-century conflicts. It was converted into Bhutanโ€™s National Museum in 1968.

Next, weโ€™ll take a scenic hillside trail to Rinpung Dzong. Constructed in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, Bhutanโ€™s first spiritual and temporal ruler, the Dzong serves as the seat of the monastic body of Paro and the administrative and judicial offices of the district.
