Day 2: Baku City Tour

At Highland Park your panoramic tour across the Baku will start. Take a fresh breeze of the Caspian Sea and take incredible panoramic views of Baku. Admire the miraculous architectural mix of east and west contrasts.

Baku Boulevard - beyond the Old City there is no better way to get a feel for Bakuโ€™s relaxed, Mediterranean atmosphere than by strolling along the Boulevard โ€” the capital cityโ€™s promenade. This beautiful sweep of coast offers hours of pleasant strolling along the waterfront with ever-changing views of the city.

A trio of skyscrapers โ€” Flame Towers dominate the skyline of Baku. Our most visible landmark symbolizes the 3 flames from the historic logo of the capital. Over 30 stores tall, they are completely covered with LED screens, and at night they light up with a display of fire that we can see from anywhere in the city.

Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum is a key centerpiece in our national culture, and only an innovative rug-shaped architectural wonder could do it justice. Situated on the Baku Boulevard, the carpet museum houses the largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets in the world. Fully equipped exhibitions hall is decorated with traditional carpets from all of the seven schools of Azerbaijani carpet weaving.

Icheri sheher (Inner City) - The heart of Azerbaijanโ€™s cultural heritage has a history of thousands of years and is located in the historic center of Baku, the capital city of the ancient state of the Shirvanshahs and symbol of Azerbaijani statehood. This unique historic ensemble has been called the โ€˜Acropolis of Bakuโ€™, Old City or Icherisheher. The Old City territory includes the Shirvanshah Palace, Synyk Kala minaret, Maiden Tower, โ€œBayil Stonesโ€, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi mausoleum, caravanserais โ€“ the Multani and Bukharian caravanserai, Mollahana, numerous mosques โ€“ Muhammad ibn Abu-Bakr, bath-houses, Baku Khansโ€™ House and also numerous rich residences of the ะฅIะฅ century.

Stop At: Palace of The Shirvanshahs, Baku, Azerbaijan
Shirvanshahsโ€™ Palace - Once home to the Shirvanshahs that ruled most of todayโ€™s Azerbaijan between 9th-16th centuries, this UNESCO World Heritage Site in Baku was constructed in the highest point of Icherisheher between the 12th-14th centuries. Not only is the palace a timeless example of medieval Islamic architecture, but also a contemporary museum.

Stop At: Maiden Tower, Downtown Baku Old City, Baku 1000 Azerbaijan
The Maiden Tower is so old, we canโ€™t tell what it was originally meant for. It may have been a Zoroastrian fire temple, an observatory, or a fortress. Maybe it was a watchtower, as it certainly gives incredible views across Baku and the Caspian Sea.

Bukhara caravanserai constructed in late 15th century over the trade highway of Icherisheher in Baku. The caravanserai has a quadratic shape and salient portal and, its yard is octagonal. Caravanserai surrounded by balconies and personal premises โ€“ chapels along the perimeter

Day 3: Guba - Khinalug Tour

Stop At: Khinalug, Khinalug, Guba-Khachmaz Region
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive from Baku to Guba. Khinaliq is a world famous Azerbaijani village located high up in the mountains at an elevation of over 2300 meters, on the coast of the Gudyalchay river. Khinaliq is surrounded by the Gizil Gaya, Shahdag, Tufandag mountaints. Khinaliq language is part of Shahdag languages family. Modern-day residents of Khinaliq are descendants of ancient Alban tribes. There are many mosques in the city, with the oldest dating back to the 14th century. The village was accessible only by horse in the past. But now tourists can visit it through a newly built highway in every season of the year. All of the houses in Khinalig are ancient. There are nearly 300 houses in the village. Khinalig Museum of History and Ethnography is the most famous one in Guba. Archaeological and ethnographic elements, rugs and carpets, clay and copper plates, a variety of household and domestic items, stone inscriptions and other items give tourists information about the history of Khinaliq.

Stop At: Quba, Quba, Guba-Khachmaz Region
Girmizi Gasaba (the Red Settlement), a famous Jewish settlement in Guba, is located on the outskirts of the city, on the beach of Gudyalchay river. This area is considered one of unique attractions for local and foreign tourists. The foundation of the Girmizi Gasaba was laid under Guba`s Fatali khan in the 18th century. The settlement, formerly known as โ€œJewish Slobodaโ€, was named โ€œGirmizi Gasabaโ€ in 1926. Local residents also call the settlement โ€œGirmizi kandโ€ (the Red village). The area is the most heavily populated Jewish settlement in the world.

Stop At: Quba, Quba, Guba-Khachmaz Region
Guba is also a center of carpet-making. There are more than 30 types of Guba carpets. โ€œGadim-Minaraโ€, โ€œGimilโ€, โ€œGrizโ€, โ€œChichiโ€ and โ€œYerfiโ€ carpets are kept in museums all around the world and in personal collections. Private enterprises of Guba also produce different types of carpets.

Stop At: The Guba Genocide Memorial Complex, Quba Azerbaijan
The Guba mass grave was revealed in 2007 during the reconstruction works near the stadium on the right bank of Gudyalchay. The researches prove that Armenian dashnaks committed genocide here in 1918. The huge memorial complex was built in the area to honor the victims. Drive back to the city.

Day 4: Ateshgah + Yanardag Tour

Stop At: Ateshgah - Fire Temple, ะกัƒั€ะฐั…ะฐะฝัะบะธะน ั€ะฐะนะพะฝ, Baku Azerbaijan
Ateshgah (Fire Temple) - the fire-worshipping Zoroastrians left their mark at Ateshgah, where the Fire Temple amazes visitors with its spouts of flame. The present temple only dates from the 17-19th century, though, as the site was adopted by the Hindu merchants trading in nearby Baku.

Stop At: Yanar Dag, Azerbaijan
Yanardag (Fire Mountain) - just 20 minutes drive from Ateshgah you might notice a strange orange glow rising from the hillside near the low pass. Thatโ€™s because the hill itself is on fire. Gas escaping from subterranean flues has been burning incessantly for decades and now attracts the curious from all over the world. Drive back to the hotel.

Day 5: Gobustan & Mud Volcanoes tour

Stop At: Gobustan Rock Art, Gobustan Settlement - Garadagh District 60 km South of Baku, Qobustan 1080 Azerbaijan
Gobustan - a trip to the Stone Age.The State Historical-Artistic Reserve Gobustan, located 60 km south of Baku, is a unique monument of world significance, in 2007 included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the State Historical-Artistic Reserve Gobustan, one can also see the sites of the first people, remnants of a large prehistoric cromlech and other testimonies about the inhabitants of the region of the Stone Age and subsequent periods. The museum's collection contains over 100 thousand archaeological materials. Many unique artifacts, tools relating to the Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic, animated representations, video materials allow tourists to see the extent of natural changes in Gobustan, the geography of human settlements, to get acquainted with the culture and ideas of ancient people.

Stop At: Mud Volcanoes, Dasgil Hill, Qobustan 3700 Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan and its Caspian coastline are home to nearly 400 Mud Volcanoes, more than half the total throughout the world. In 2001, one mud volcano 15 kilometers from Baku made world headlines when it suddenly started ejecting flames 15 meters high. Mud volcanoes are closely associated with hydrocarbon and petrochemical stores underground, hence the gas trying to escape to the surface.

Stop At: Bibi-Heybat Mosque, Baku Azerbaijan
The Bibi-Heybat Mosque is a historical mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan. The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is a recreation of the mosque with the same name built in the 13th century by Shirvanshah Farrukhzad II Ibn Ahsitan II, which was completely destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1936.The Bibi-Heybat Mosque includes the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum (a descendant of Muhammad), and today is the spiritual center for the Muslims of the region and one of the major monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. It is locally known as "the mosque of Fatima", which is what Alexandre Dumas called it when he described the mosque during his visit in the 1840s.
