Itinerary of your trip Odyssey Kerala With Houseboat (Cochin, Munnar And Alleppey)

  • Day 1 Arrival In Cochin International Airport
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Arrival In Cochin International Airport

Upon arrival at Kochi airport, you will be greeted by host and transferred to your pre-booked hotel in Kochi. In the early evening, your driver will pick you up for a visit to:

Kathakali Dance Show Centre in an air-conditioned theater (Timings: 5:30 PM โ€“ 7:30 PM)

Kathakaliโ€™s art elements trace back to ancient Hindu temple rituals and various dance forms, developing in Kerala from the 2nd to the 16th century. Despite their ancient origins, Kathakaliโ€™s characteristics crystallized in the 17th century when the Rajah of Kottarakkara, a small principality in central Travancore, wrote plays based on the Hindu epic "Ramayana" in Sanskritized Malayalam, making them accessible to ordinary people. After the show, you will return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Cochin.

  • Day 2 Cochin Sightseeing
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Cochin Sightseeing

After breakfast, begin your tour in Kochi with visits to:

      Mattancherry Palace & Jewish Synagogue

The Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is located in Mattancherry, Kochi, Kerala. This Portuguese palace features Kerala murals depicting portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi. Built and gifted by the Portuguese to the king of Cochin around 1555, the palace underwent extensions and renovations by the Dutch in 1663, earning it the name Dutch Palace.

The Jewish Synagogue, also called the Paradesi Synagogue, was built by Sephardic Jews and is referred to as the Cochin Jewish Synagogue or the Mattancherry Synagogue. It is named Paradesi, meaning "foreigners," because it was built by Jews from families exiled in places like Aleppo and Safed.

      Monument Timings:

Dutch Palace/Mattancherry: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed on Fridays and national holidays.

Jewish Synagogue: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (break time: 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM), closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Jewish holidays.

      Chinese Fishing Nets

Chinese fishing nets, known locally as Cheenavala, are fixed land installations for fishing, commonly referred to in India as "Chinese fishing nets." These shore-operated lift nets are mechanical structures with horizontal nets over 20 meters wide. Standing at least 10 meters high, the nets are suspended over the sea, counterbalanced by large stones at the other end.

      Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Kochi

The Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica in Fort Kochi is one of Keralaโ€™s eight Basilicas and is renowned for its heritage. This impressive church, admired for its architectural grandeur and Gothic style, serves as a center of devotion and historic significance, attracting visitors year-round.

      St. Francis Church, Kochi

St. Francis CSI Church in Fort Kochi, originally built in 1503, is the oldest European church in India. This church has historical significance as it witnessed the European colonial struggle in the subcontinent. The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama was buried here in 1524 before his remains were moved to Lisbon fourteen years later.

After approximately 25 kilometers on regular roads, we will transition to a rugged, bumpy trail leading to the worldโ€™s highest organic tea-growing estate. At the summit, we will be at the ridge marking the Kerala and Tamil Nadu border.

Continue by driving or walking a bit further to visit one of the regionโ€™s oldest orthodox tea factories. Here, you can enjoy fresh tea, picked, processed, and prepared on-site. Following the factory visit, weโ€™ll head to a small clearing near a cliff for a picnic lunch, surrounded by breathtaking views.

The return journey to Munnar will be via the jeep, traveling through the tea plantations along rugged roads. This route offers a close-up view of the spectacular countryside and the rural Tamil people working in the tea plantations. Later, drive back to the hotel for an overnight stay in Munnar.
