Itinerary of your trip Original North (From Belfast To Antrim)

  • Day 1 Day 1: Belfast
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Belfast

Individual arrival in Belfast and transfer to your hotel. You have free time at your disposal. We recommend the Belfast Hop on - Hop off tour to explore the most important sights of the city. We can also recommend a visit to the Titanic Experience Museum (optional), where you can see replicas of some of the cabins from the cruise ship. One night in Belfast.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Belfast - Derry
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Belfast - Derry

On your way to Derry, you will first stop at the tourist attraction "The Gobbins" (optional). The unique cliff walk takes you over numerous bridges and steps along the cliffs directly above the Irish Sea (see note). Did you know that the basalt cliffs at The Gobbins are home to Northern Irelandโ€™s only puffin colony? The tour then continues to Bushmills via the Giantโ€™s Causeway (optional), a unique, mile-long rock formation of volcanic origin, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is home to one of the oldest and most renowned whiskey distilleries in the world. After the informative tour, there is of course also a small tasting of the "water of life" (optional). Alternatively, after visiting the Giantโ€™s Causeway, you can continue to the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. Originally built by salmon fishermen, the 25 m high suspension bridge spans an 18 m wide gorge to a small island off the coast. From there you have a breathtaking view of the Antrim coast. The bridge is open all year round, but access is subject to weather conditions (optional). You then continue your journey to Derry and drive past the ancient ruins of Dunluce Castle. Even if the panorama conveys an image of idyll, its past, marked by sieges and violence, is dark. One night in Derry. Approx. 180 km/approx. 3 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 3 Day 3: Derry - Letterkenny
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Derry - Letterkenny

In the morning we recommend a walk through Derry, where you can marvel at the extraordinary Guildhall. This neo-Gothic marvel of red brick is not only beautiful from the outside, but its interior also has something to offer: with a bit of luck, you will experience the huge organ being played! You can also visit the Craft Village open-air museum (optional). In the afternoon, drive through the scenic County Donegal to Letterkenny. Depending on time, we recommend a detour to the Inishowen Peninsula or to Glenveagh Castle in the national park of the same name. The Inishowen Peninsula is the largest peninsula in Ireland. Malin Head is the northernmost point of the country. Buncrana is the capital of Inishowen and has a population of around 4,500. There are many enchanting ways to discover the peninsula nearby. The path over the castle bridge behind Nedโ€™s Point and Porthaw Bay to the rock of Monch Hegarty is the most popular. Glenveagh National Park, on the other hand, is set in a unique landscape of mountains, glens, lakes and woodlands in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains in north-west Donegal. Two of the highest mountains in Ireland - Slieve Snacht and Mount Errigal are located in the area of the national park. The solitude is characteristic of the park as there are no roads through it. Be enchanted by the romantic atmosphere on the shores of Lough Veagh. In the visitor center you can get to know the national park better through an exhibition and an audiovisual presentation (optional). In Letterkenny it is worth visiting the Glebe House and Gallery. One night in the Letterkenny area. Approx. 40-60 km/approx. 1 hour (breakfast).

  • Day 4 Day 4: Letterkenny - Mayo Region
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: Letterkenny - Mayo Region

The journey first takes you to Donegal. On site you have the opportunity to visit Donegal Castle and the picturesque ruins of a Franciscan abbey (optional). Afterwards you can enjoy the breathtaking view over the Atlantic at the Slieve Leagues. The cliffs on the coast of Donegal are not as well known as the Cliffs of Moher, but are just as unique. With a height of approx. 600 m, the cliffs are the highest in Europe. Via the former monastic settlement of Drumcliff, where the grave of the famous Nobel Prize winner William Butler Yeats is located, and along the Mayo coast, you will then reach the lively town of Sligo. Take some time to walk along the wide sandy beaches before stopping off at the Ceide Fields (optional), Europeโ€™s largest Stone Age site dating back more than 5,000 years. One night in the Mayo region. Approx. 245 km/approx. 5 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 5 Day 5: Mayo Region - Galway
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 5: Mayo Region - Galway

Via the charming little town of Westport with its small alleyways, quaint cafรฉs and shops, you drive to the enchanting Kylemore Valley with its marvelous Benedictine monastery Kylemore Abbey (optional). Your route to the lively university town of Galway takes you through the wildly romantic and unspoilt Connemara region. In Galway you will find many boutiques, art galleries and traditional pubs with live Irish music. One night in Galway. Approx. 185 km/approx. 4.5 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 6 Day 6: Galway - Meath
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Galway - Meath

After a visit to the ruins of Clonmacnoise (optional), one of the most beautiful and important monasteries in Ireland, the tour continues to Tullamore, home of the famous whiskey "Tullamore Dew" and the liqueur "Irish Mist". Whiskey is no longer distilled in Tullamore itself. However, you can follow the production process in the Tullamore Dew Heritage Center (optional). There is a tasting at the end of the tour. You will then start your return journey towards Dublin. In your overnight stay in Meath, you can round off your trip in one of the many pubs. One night in Meath. Approx. 230 km/approx. 4 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 7 Day 7: Meath - Belfast
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 7: Meath - Belfast

You drive through the Boyne Valley, a region with evidence of times long past. The prehistoric cult sites were built between 3500 and 2500 BC. Some of them have been preserved, such as the megalithic burial mounds of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. It is worth visiting the "Bru na Boinne" information center on site (optional). From there you can also visit the Hill of Tara in the Boyne Valley. It is one of the most revered sites in the country, as it served as the seat of the ancient Irish High Kings in pre-Christian times. Visitors can experience the remains of this cult site, whose history dates back to the Bronze Age. Then drive along the stunning Antrim Coast to Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. As an alternative to a stop in the Boyne Valley, you can also make a stop at Hillsbourough Castle just before Belfast. Not actually a castle, but a traditional Georgian manor house that has served as the official residence of the Royal Family during their visits to Northern Ireland since 1925, as well as the home of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. In addition to the manor house, you can visit the magnificent, extensive gardens with their various themed gardens, e.g. the 18th century Walled Garden. Our tip for the evening in Belfast: stop off at the Crown Liquor Saloon in Great Victoria Street. Opened in 1895, it is one of the most stylish pubs in the country! One night in Belfast. Approx. 200 km/approx. 4 hours (breakfast).

  • Day 8 Day 8: Belfast
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 8: Belfast

End of the trip and individual departure. (Breakfast).
