Day 2: Pre-Trip Meeting And Sightseeing Around The Kathmandu Valley

At around 8 am, we host a pre-trip meeting at your hotel in Kathmandu and introduce your guide. Please seek this opportunity to ask questions about your tour. This includes a final briefing and preparations for the trip. For the meeting, please make sure you bring your passport, two copies of passport-size photos, and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy. During this meeting, please clear the due balance, if any, and sign the legally binding trip form as well as the non-liability disclaimer. Please inform us in advance if you will be arriving late and therefore are unable to attend the pre-trip meeting.
After the pre-trip meeting, your sightseeing trip will start at around 8:45am. You will have a private vehicle and a professional tour guide at your disposal.

Kathmandu Durbar Square (World Heritage Site)
This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries, used to be the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu. An intriguing piece, here is the 17th century stone inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages. The Durbar Square is the social, religious and urban focal point of the city. There are also three museums inside the palace building.
Swoyambhunath Stupa - The Monkey Temple (World Heritage Site)
It watches over the valley from the top of a hillock on its western side. The huge stupa is one of the holiest Buddhists sites in Nepal and its establishment is linked to the creation of the Kathmandu Valley out of a primordial lake. Swoyambhu is also known as Samhengu and the ‘Monkey temple’ because of the countless monkeys living in the premises.
Pashupatinath Temple (World Heritage Site)
Pashupatinath is one of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world and lies 5 kms east of the city center. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred ‘Linga’, or phallic symbol, of Lord Shiva. Chronicles indicate the temple's existence prior to 400 AD. Devotees can be seen taking ritual dips in the holy Bagmati River flowing beside the temple.
Bouddhanath Stupa (World Heritage Site)
Lies about 6 kms to the east of downtown Kathmandu and is the largest stupa in the valley. It looms 36 meters high and presents one of the most fascinating specimens of stupa design. Bouddhanath is also known as Khasti, meaning dew drops, after an account that builders had to use dew to mix the mortar as Kathmandu was suffering from a severe drought during the construction of Bouddhanath. After breakfast at the hotel, we drive for about 3 hours to Charaundi, where you start your rafting.Trishuli River is where you raft,followed from a famous pilgrimage place Gosainkunda which lies high in the Himalaya. At Gosainkunda, Lord Shiva drove his trident into the rocky mountain to create three springs –the source of the river and hence its name Trishuli. The river has fixed some truly impressive gorges in its lower part as it cut its way through the 2000 meters high Mahabharat Range.
For many people this river represents the ideal rafting trip just the right length of time, exciting rapid, but not too difficult, easily reachable from Kathmandu. Certainly Trishuli River rafting is the ideal trip if you are looking for more of a ‘wilderness’, unsullied beaches and unspoilt scenery. The rapids on Trisuli are mainly big, bouncy and relatively safe; ‘flips’ (where the raft capsizes) or other accidents are rare in normal water condition, and if you wish, it is possible to walk around the few difficult rapids.Overnight at River Side Camp.

After breakfast, we will continue the rafting for about three hours until luncha and then drive to Pokhara by tourist vehicle, one of the most famous cities in Nepal for its natural beauty and stunning mountain views. Day 5: Ndash;Drive To Nayapul From Pokhara (One Hour Drive) To Start Our Trek- 3 Hours.

We begin our trek at Nayapul after 1 hour driving by a private vehicle from Pokhara. After 15 minutes short walk along the bank of the Modi Khola, we reach Birethanti (1015meters), a large village that has many shops and teahouses. From there, the trail continues through the village. The trail follows the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. From there, the trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille at 1495m and after the short climb, we reach Tikhedhunga at 1570meters. Today’s walk offers a short and relatively easy day, during the journey, which allows us to become used to the experience of trekking in Nepal.Overnight at a Guest house.

Leaving Tikhedunga, we begin ourjourney with a steep climb to Ulleri. Ulleri is a large Magar village at 2070 meters. The trail then continues to ascend more gently, through fine forests of oak and rhododendrons towards Banthanti at 2250meters. Then we trek towards Nangethanti at 2460m. An hour of walking brings you to Ghorepani at 2840meters.Overnight at Guest house.

Today, very early in the morning, we start an hour hiking to Poon Hill at elevation of 3210meters. This vantage point provides an unobstructed view of sunrise over the high Himalayas. There we spend about 1 hour; we then return to Ghorepani, take hot breakfast at the hotel, then we trek to Tadapani (2610meters). Along the trail towards Tadapani, we make climb along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2960meters). After that we descend to the Banthanti, we then turn off to Tadapani.Overnight at Guest house.

From Tadapani the trail descends through forests to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a village of Gurung people, one of the ethnic groups of Nepal; they have their own dialect, culture, costume, and life style. Ghandruk is also home to many Gurkha soldiers. It is a famous destination for trekkers as it is known for its beautiful mountain views and within easy reach from Pokhara and Kathmandu. We have the afternoon to visit the Annapurna conservation office, Museum and explore the village.Overnight at Guest house.

Before breakfast we'll drive to Sarangkot, one of the best destinations in Nepal to view the sunrise and sunset over the snowcapped mountains, including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre. We return to Pokhara after the morning spectacle for more sightseeing.
We provide a private vehicle and a professional tour guide. The places we visit are as follows:
Phewa Lake and Barahi Temple
Situated at an altitude of 800m above sea level, it is the second largest lake in the kingdom. With the Barahi Island Temple in the middle of the lake, it is the most important religious monument in Pokhara. Built almost in the middle of Phewa Lake, this two-storeyed pagoda is dedicated to the female force ‘Shakti’. The reflection of Mt. Machhapuchhare and Annapurna can be seen in its serene water. Thick forest lies on the adjoining southern slopes of the lake.
Seti River Gorge
Carved by Seti-Gandaki, it is one of the natural wonders of Pokhara. K.I. Singh bridge at Bagar, Mahendrapool & Prithivi highway Bridge near bus park, provide a perfect view of the river's dreadful rush and the deep gorge made by the turbulent flow of white water.
Davis Fall
Locally known as ‘Patale Chhango’ and located in the southern flank of the Pokhara valley, it is where the stream flowing from Fewa lake collapses and surges down the rock into a deep gorge, leaping through several potholes. This is hugely popular among tourists and locals alike.
Gupteshwor Cave
The revered Gupteshwor Cave is situated 2 kms from Pokhara airport. The entrance is right across from Davis fall and the cave is almost 3 kms long. It has some big hall-sized rooms and some passages where you have to crawl on all four. This cave holds special value to Hindus since a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva is preserved here in the condition it was discovered.
Tibetan Refugee Camps
The Tibetan village Tashiling in the south and the Tashi Palkhel village in the north of Pokhara are renowned for the production and trade of woolen carpets and other handicrafts. The original Tibetan settlers in this region migrated to Nepal in the ‘50s.Overnight at Hotel in Pokhara.

We will spend half of the day on a guided sightseeing in Lumbini, which is one of the most religiously significant sites in Nepal. It is the birth place of Lord Buddha, born in 623 BC, and is now developed as a Buddhist pilgrimage site.Overnight at Hotel in Lumbini.

We will leave for the Chitwan National Park, the first national park of Nepal, established in 1973. There are more than 43 species of mammals in the park. The park is especially renowned for its protection of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, tiger, and gharial along with many other common species of wild animals. On reaching the resort in the National Park, our Guest Relations Officer will brief guests, thenafter you will be participating in an elephant safari, jungle walk, nature walk with boat ride and dinner will be ready at about 8pm.Overnight at a Jungle Lodge.

Day 13: Activities In The Chitwan National Park

An early morning wakeup call followed by tea/coffee. The early morning tour provides you one of the best times to see the wildlife at its best with bird watching, elephant safari and jungle walk.
After breakfast a 45-minute walk through the grassland and forest upstream of the Narayani River.
Climb aboard the local boats to observe crocodiles along the banks while floating back to the camp to enjoy lunch. Late afternoon, a guide will take you for elephant safari and jungle walk, visit the observation tower, nature walk with boat ride, back to the camp and have dinner.

Nagarkot is one of the most scenic spots situated about 35 km east of Kathmandu from where an excellent view of snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan Ranges in eastern Nepal can be seen (weather permitting). The place is also renowned for spectacular sunrise sights. There are also some great hiking trails in Nagarkot. Overnight at Hotel in Nagarkot.

We'll wake up very early in the morning to watch the stunning sunrise from Nagarkot, which the place is most renowned for. We will then drive to Dhulikhel with sightseeing in Changunarayan Temple on the way.
Changunarayan Temple (World Heritage Site)
Situated on a ridge overlooking the Kathmandu valley, about 12 kms to the east of the city. It is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. It is one of the finest and oldest specimens of pagoda architecture built in 323 AD by King Haridutta Verma. The temple is richly decorated with sculptures and carvings, and its position above the Kathmandu valley affords a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside.
Dhulikhel
Dhulikhel is a hill station in the outskirts of Kathmandu. After some rest, our guide will brief you about the trip and also give a short introduction of Nepal, also touching upon important cultural considerations. In the evening, the group will be offered a typical Nepali-style dinner to start off the trip. Overnight at Hotel in Dhulikhel.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square is a collection of pagoda and shikhara-style temples grouped around a 55-window palace of brick and wood. The attractions of the Bhaktapur Durbar Square are the Lion Gate, the Golden Gate, the 55-window palace, art galleries and the statue of King Bhupatindra Malla.Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.

We'll drive around the valley to visit some important religious, natural and historical sites. We'll visit the following places:
Pharping
Only about 2 kms away, Pharping is an ancient renowned city situated in the southern region of Kathmandu. It was popular with the name "Shikharapuri Mahanagari (Metropolitan City)" which was recognized as an independent state with 48,000 people in the ancient times. Shikharapur was an independent Newari (ethnic) state, but presently hosts several important Hindu temples and Buddhist monasteries.
Dakshinkali Temple
Dakshinkali Temple, one of the main temples of Nepal, is dedicated to Kali, the fearless form of Lord Shiva’s consort, Parvati. The main deity in the temple is the black stone, six-armed form of Kali, standing on a prostrated figure. Dakshinkali is located 22 kms outside Kathmandu, and about 1 km outside the village of Pharping at the south end of the valley between two hills and at the confluence of two rivers. Animal sacrifices - the main way that the goddess is worshipped - are made two times a week at this temple, on Saturdays and on Tuesdays.
Chobhar
Chobhar is a village development committee in Kathmandu District in the Bagmati Zone of central Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census, it had a population of 5,627 and had 1,109 households in it.
Chobhar is known for the nearby Chobhar Gorge where there are the Chobhar caves. There is also a temple, Adinath Lokeshwar, which is sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus.Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.

Bungmati
Bungmati is a classic Newari village dating from the 16th century. It sits atop a spur above the Bagmati River. In the centre of the lively village square is the large Rato Machhindranath Temple, a shikhara-style temple rather than a pagoda. Bungmati is a pleasant traditional Newari village that dates to the 16th century. It overlooks the Bagmati River. The streets are too thin for vehicle traffic. Not many visitors come here.
Rato Machhindranath Temple: Bungmati is the birthplace of Rato Machhindranath. There is a shikhara-style temple in the middle of the village square. Rato Machhindranath is regarded as the patron guardian of the valley. It is a common belief that he spends six months a year in this temple and the other six months in the Rato Machhindranath Temple in Patan. The courtyard around the temple has a large prayer wheel and many Chortens (Tibetan Buddhist stupas). When the deity of Rato Machhindranath is moved to and from Patan and Bungmati, it is a great festival (known as Rato Machhendranath Jatra).
Karya Binayak Temple: This temple, located between Bungmati and Khokana, is dedicated to Lord Ganesh. There are some great views of Bungmati valley and Bungmati River from the temple. From the road linking the hamlets, a path leads up to a beautiful clearing and the walled compound of the shrine. Here Ganesh is emerged as an elephant-shaped stone and is believed to help complete difficult tasks.
Khokana
Khokana, another Newari place, a short walk across the paddy fields from Bungmati Nepal, is littered with little towns and villages which are seldom visited by tourists. Some may feel that a particular town or village has little or nothing to offer, while some find boring – others find fascinating. Those who visit Nepal for the sheer experience of learning more about the lives and cultures of the local peoples will usually enjoy visiting even the simplest little farming village and getting to know the local inhabitants better. Khokana is a simple place, but it is filled with life, history and culture. If you have a real appreciation for such things, this little village is definitely worth a visit.
Khokana in Nepal is situated just north of Bungmati. It is a tiny Newari village with a reputation for two things – mustard oil and the local temple.
Patan Durbar Square (World Heritage Site)
Patan Durbar Square is an enchanting combination of palace buildings, artistic courtyards and graceful pagoda temples. The former royal palace complex is the center of Patan's religious and social life, and houses a museum containing an array of bronze statues and religious objects. One remarkable monument here is a 17th century temple dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna, built entirely of stone.Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.
