Itinerary of your trip The Imperial Cities And The Desert - 10 Days

  • Day 1 Day 1: Casablanca
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Casablanca

Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco, but it is not the capital. That honour belongs to Rabat (for now... Moroccoโ€™s capital has changed several times over the centuries). Casablanca is a modern city that still has lots of history attached to it, as you will see.

While we are here, weโ€™ll get to see the popular Hassan II Mosque (estimated to house 25,000 worshippers inside), Parc de la Ligue Arabe and the Casablanca Cathedral.

Of course, you can also visit the famous Old Medina, the olive souk or anything else that takes your fancy.

  • Day 2 Day 2: To Rabat And Chefchaouen
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 2: To Rabat And Chefchaouen

From Casablanca, we will take you to the northern imperial city of Rabat.

Rabat contains lots to experience. There is the medieval Chellah Necropolis, Roman and Islamic ruins, the Kasbah Des Oudaias (a grand door that leads to the original city center), the 20th-century Andalusian Gardens and the Hassan Tower.

From there, we will take you through the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, also known as โ€™The Blue Cityโ€™. You can enjoy the medina along the northern hillside before touring the kasbah and the abandoned Spanish Mosque.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Volubilis To Meknes And Fes
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Volubilis To Meknes And Fes

Volubilis is a UNESCO protected site and it is where you can find Moroccoโ€™s ancient Roman ruins that includes โ€™The Labours Of Herculesโ€™.

After Volubilis, its time to head to Meknes. Meknes has lots to offer you, including the Bab al-Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.

After Meknes, we will head to Fes where we will spend the night in a traditional riad. Before we head to bed though, there will be time to look around and enjoy the medina, the Merenid Tombs and the Mellah (the Jewish Quarter and Cemetery).

  • Day 4 Day 4: Fes
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Fes

We will be spending some time in Fes, one of Moroccoโ€™s oldest Imperial cities.

Your guides will talk you through some of Fesโ€™s history and help you to find your way around the medina!

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 5: Fes To Erfoud To Merzouga And The Sahara

Today weโ€™ll be heading to the south. Youโ€™ll get to see some wonderful countryside, that includes cedar forests, the โ€™Apple Cityโ€™ of Midelt and having your lunch near the Moulouya River.

Thereโ€™s quite a bit of ground to cover, but eventually you will come to Erg Chebbi in the Sahara Desert, where you will spend the night in a Bedouin style tent.

Sit back and enjoy the clear night sky!

Day 6: Desert Towns Around Merzouga, Lush Oases, And Todra Gorge

Today you will be waking up in the Sahara Desertโ€™s sea of sand dunes. You can take a sand dune tour if you wish, or you can opt to stay put and enjoy a rest.

Later, we will take you to the Todra Gorge via the traditional Saharan village of Khemliya where you can experience traditional music, drumming and dancing.

When you get to the oasis at Todra, it is time to relax and settle down for the night.

From there we will head to Ouarzazate, a popular filming location and site of the Musรฉe du Cinema. We can also take a movie studio tour if you would like to know a bit more about the history of filming in the area.

Toward the end of the day, we will take you to Aรฏt Benhaddou, a protected UNESCO site and the most famous kasbah in Morocco.

You can then spend your evening in Aรฏt Benhaddou as you wish, before turning in for the night.

From Aรฏt Benhaddou, we will be heading from the desert to much greener, wetter climes and to one of Moroccoโ€™s most famous cities, Marrakech.

First though, we will travel up into the High Atlas via the Tizi nโ€™Tichka pass (4167 m) where we will stop to take in a stunning view of the surrounding area, including Mount Toubkal, the tallest peak in North Africa.

When you arrive in Marrakech, you will have the chance to settle into your lodgings to take some time to explore the city. Make sure you visit the main square Jemaa el-Fna in the evening, if only for the incredible street entertainers. If that is not necessarily your thing, then there is the Koutoubia Mosque, souks to explore, plus the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and El Badi Palace.

This is your final day before we take you back to Casablanca.

When lunch is done, its time for us to go!
