Guide

Your leader will provide basic information about the sights and cities you'll be visiting but please note that our leaders are not 'tour guides' in the traditional sense. They are adventure travel specialists and are there to organise your trip, arrange activities and help with questions or problems you may have while on your tour. Your leader will provide you with all the important information you need to embark on your own explorations. They are also responsible for driving the van and navigating across the country. The allowable driving times for drivers is strictly controlled in North America. This ensures our drivers are well rested and are not over-tired from too many hours on the roads. While your group will have a minivan for all included activities on the trip, please note that the services of the van and the driver may not be available for your use during free time, or after you have arrived for the day. If you need a special trip into town you may need to arrange transport or a taxi. We endeavour to provide the services of an experienced leader however, situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. It's strictly forbidden for non-qualified rangers to present any information about some National Parks in North America, therefore we adopt a system (as requested by the park rangers) where our leader will encourage travellers to visit the information centres in the National Parks for details about the site. All group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense, you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. At Intrepid we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you are interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your leader can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip.

Accommodation

The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation. Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available. Our 4,000 acre ranch resort borders the eastern boundary of Zion National Park. On site you will find a restaurants and a swimming pool. All our rustic cabins are equipped with a private bedroom, full bathroom, wet bar with coffee maker and a front porch to sit and watch the sunrise from. Ranch (3 nights)

Day 1: Las Vegas / Zion National Park

Welcome to Utah! Get ready to embrace the wild west as you explore some of the countryโ€™s great wildernesses. Youโ€™ll meet your group in Vegas for a Welcome Meeting and then all board the private bus together to transfer to Zion National Park. After a picnic lunch, your leader will brief you on the various self guided walks and trails available such as strenuous Scout Lookout. Tonight, if you wish, you can enjoy dinner back at the ranch and maybe even relax with a bottle of wine under the stars, or head out for a stroll around the property.Accommodation: Ranch

Day 2: Bryce Canyon / Zion

This morning after breakfast youโ€™ll be heading to Bryce Canyon National Park for the day. After a short drive in your private, air-conditioned vehicle youโ€™ll reach an elevation of 8000 feet (just over 2400 metres) and will have officially entered Bryce National Park. From here, youโ€™ll spend the morning hiking, with a stroll along the canyon rim to marvel at the unique sandstone spires (known as hoodoos) that rise dramatically from the natural amphitheater. A picnic lunch is included, so youโ€™ll have time to rest your legs and relax with the other travelers in your group. Later, hike down into the hoodoos for an up close and personal experience with this fascinating landscape, with plenty of great nature photo opportunities, before heading back to the ranch at about 4pm for a free time before a traditional Dutch Oven dinner of classic dishes like ribs and cornbread tonight.Accommodation: Ranch

  • Day 3 Day 3: Monument Valley / Zion

Day 3: Monument Valley / Zion

Today after breakfast youโ€™ll be hopping back into your private vehicle and heading to Monument Valley for the day. The southbound drive will take you through lots of the southwestโ€™s spectacular scenery, past Lake Powell until you reach one of the most iconic locations on the planet. Monument Valley is the set for many famous western movies so may look quite familiar to some. But, most importantly, itโ€™s the native land of the Navajo. Once you arrive, youโ€™ll transfer from your vehicle to a 4X4 jeep and enjoy a Navajo guided tour of Monument Valley, where youโ€™ll have the chance to learn more about their rich culture and history in the area, before sitting down to a traditional homecooked, family-style Navajo lunch. After lunch weโ€™ll make our way back towards the ranch, stopping at the famous Horseshoe Bend for an incredible photo opportunity on the way. Once back at the ranch, youโ€™ll have time to rest and recuperate after a fun-filled day.Accommodation: Ranch
