      Your flight into Bhutan offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains, setting the tone for an unforgettable journey. Upon landing in Paro, take a short drive to Thimphu. Along the way, visit Tamchhog Lhakhang, a temple built by Thang Thong Gyalpo of Tibet, known for constructing iron bridges across Bhutan. Next, head to Kuenselcholing Viewpoint, where you can enjoy sweeping views of Thimphu Valley from the iconic Buddha Point.


      In Thimphu, visit the Memorial Chorten, constructed in 1974 to honor King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the father of modern Bhutan. End your day by exploring Tashichho Dzong, a historic fortress built in 1641 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. This impressive structure houses the secretariat, throne room, the kingโ€™s office, and the central monk body. After a day filled with cultural landmarks, return to your accommodation for an overnight stay in Thimphu.

      After breakfast, embark on a short hike to Cheri Monastery, passing through Dodina and the Jigme Dorji Wildlife Sanctuary. This hour-long hike offers a chance to experience the regionโ€™s rich biodiversity, with opportunities to spot birds such as the Yellow-browed Tit, Yellow-rumped Honeyguide, Long-billed Thrush, and Ultramarine Flycatcher.


      Next, visit a traditional paper factory, where youโ€™ll learn about the ancient art of handmade paper-making, a craft that dates back to the 8th century. This traditional paper, a significant part of Bhutanese cultural heritage, is highly valued both within the country and abroad.


      Continue your exploration with a visit to the weekend market and the Bhutan craft bazaar. Here, private stalls showcase a variety of high-quality products from across the country, including wood-carved items, bags, wooden and clay utensils, Bangchung, Dhapa, jewelry boxes, bookmarks, and handmade packing papers (Deysho) in various patterns, as well as antique items. End your day with a leisurely stroll around the city.

      After breakfast, set out for Gangtey, crossing the high Dochula Pass at an elevation of 3,140 meters (10,362 feet). From this pass, enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the Himalayas. On clear days, you can see a series of majestic peaks from left to right: Masagang (7,158 m), Tsendagang (6,960 m), Terigang (7,060 m), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m), Kangphugang (7,170 m), Zongphugang (7,060 m), and finally, Gangkar Puensum, Bhutanโ€™s highest peak at 7,497 meters.


      After taking in these breathtaking views, continue your journey to Gangtey. Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation and relax for the rest of the day.

      Start your day with a visit to Gangtey Goemba, a majestic monastery perched on the hills of the Phobjikha Valley, established in the 17th century. This peaceful, remote valley is the winter home of the black-necked cranes, which migrate from the arid plains of Tibet to enjoy the milder climate.


      Next, embark on a hike to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility. Built by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, the "Divine Madman," in 1499, the temple is about a thirty-minute walk across fields from the road. Along the way, admire traditional houses and explore the various temples in the area. After completing your hike, return to your accommodation.

      After breakfast, visit Punakha Dzong, a stunning fortress built in 1637 by Zhabdrung. Situated between the Mo (Female) Chu and Pho (Male) Chu rivers, this historic Dzong served as the seat of Bhutanโ€™s kings until the time of the second king.


      Following your visit, embark on a scenic drive to Paro. Upon arrival, explore Rimpung Dzong, known as the "Fortress of the Heap of Jewels." Built in 1644 by the dynamic spiritual and political leader Zhabdrung, this Dzong is a key site during the annual Tsechu festival when one of Bhutanโ€™s oldest Thongdols (gigantic scroll paintings) is ceremonially unfurled.


      Next, visit Kichu Lhakhang Monastery, one of Bhutanโ€™s oldest and most sacred monasteries. Built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, this monastery holds significant historical and religious importance. After exploring these cultural landmarks, return to your accommodation or enjoy a leisurely stroll around the city.

      After breakfast, embark on a hike to the iconic Taktshang Monastery, also known as the Tigerโ€™s Nest. Perched 800 meters (2,640 feet) up a sheer cliff, this is Bhutanโ€™s most recognizable cultural landmark. Though it was tragically destroyed by fire in April 1998, it has been meticulously restored to its former glory. Legend has it that in the 8th century, the great tantric master Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava) flew to this site on the back of a tigress, where the monastery now stands.


      Next, visit a traditional farmhouse in the valley. These picturesque, two- to three-storied Bhutanese farmhouses are adorned with colorfully decorated outer walls and lintels, reflecting the countryโ€™s unique architectural style. A visit offers a fascinating glimpse into the daily life of a farming family. Later, take a leisurely stroll around the town to immerse yourself in the local culture and lifestyle.
