      This morning weโ€™ll move on to Atlantic Ocean-fringed Arcachon Bay, where weโ€™ll get our first taste of coastal cuisine with fresh oysters and a glass of local wine from one of the portโ€™s traditional cabins. Weโ€™ll then stop to see the Great Dune of Pilat โ€“ Europeโ€™s highest sand dune, with panoramic views over the bay. This afternoon, weโ€™ll round off our day in the glamorous seaside town of Biarritz โ€“ where weโ€™ll have the evening free to wander the waterfront promenade and sample more local delicacies at our leisure. First, weโ€™ll indulge our cultural sides in Bayonne โ€“ an art and history hub just a short drive away from Biarritz. Here, weโ€™ll discover a local family business going back three generations at the Bayonne Ham Museum โ€“ where weโ€™ll indulge in a ham tasting before returning to the hotel for an afternoon of leisure time.       Today weโ€™ll turn to the east โ€“ and on to beautiful Pau. Weโ€™ll then travel through the Midi-Pyrรฉnรฉes region (along roads made famous by the Tour de France), pausing en route at the spiritual town of Lourdes. Whilst here, weโ€™ll have the opportunity to see the Sanctuaire Notre-Dame de Lourdes and the Massabielle Grotto โ€“ a significantly holy site within the Christian faith. In keeping with the spirit of our surroundings, weโ€™ll check into our atmospheric accommodation before enjoying this eveningโ€™s included dinner. Accommodation: Hotel du Barry (or similar)

      Following the trail of knights, weโ€™ll continue our own crusade through the Midi-Pyrรฉnรฉes and past picture-perfect bastides. Along the way, weโ€™ll visit a local winery and enjoy a glass of the regionโ€™s speciality โ€“ a sparkling Blanquette.       Today youโ€™ll be free to discover Carcassonneโ€™s chivalric secrets at your own pace. From the alleys, passageways and 52 towers of the UNESCO-listed medieval citadel (which dates back two millennia) to the Chรขteau Comtal and its ramparts, thereโ€™s plenty to keep you occupied. Later this evening, weโ€™ll come together for an included dinner at a local restaurant โ€“ swapping stories and photographs of the dayโ€™s discoveries.       Today weโ€™ll leave the stronghold of Carcassonne behind and make tracks to the โ€˜red cityโ€™ of Albi. Here, weโ€™ll enjoy a leisurely walking tour around the town โ€“ taking in the magnificent Cathรฉdrale Sainte-Cรฉcile as we go. Enjoy some free time for lunch before we venture onwards to our hotel for the night thatโ€™s tucked away in a nearby medieval village typical to the Albi region. Tonight, weโ€™ll savour a sumptuous meal together. Accommodation: Hรดtel des Consuls (or similar)

Then, itโ€™s onwards to one of the most beautiful towns in the Dordogne: Sarlat-la-Canรฉda. En route, weโ€™โ€™ll stop off in several idyllic French villages to stretch our legs and admire the scenery. Accommodation: Hรดtel Saint-Albert (or similar)

      On the itinerary this morning: a stroll through stunning Sarlat-la-Canรฉda with our Tour Leader, including a visit to the townโ€™s traditional market. Weโ€™ll follow this up with a delightful visit to the riverside town of Beynac-et-Cazenac. Weโ€™ll enjoy some free time to explore the townโ€™s magnificently well-preserved medieval chรขteau โ€“ which has kept watch over the Dordogne from its hilltop position for nine centuries. Afterwards, weโ€™ll return to Sarlat-la-Canรฉda for an evening spent at our leisure โ€“ perhaps exploring the picturesque alleyways or dining at one of the charming local restaurants in town.       Today our travels through the Dordogne will lead us to the prehistoric paintings of the UNESCO-protected Lascaux Cave โ€“ which was discovered when it was happened upon by a group of teenagers back in 1940. Weโ€™ll admire the replica Lascaux Cave II before making a stop at the pretty village of Les Eyzies. Then, weโ€™ll follow the โ€˜Royal Roadโ€™, winding between craggy rocks and flowing rivers until we get to a local truffle farm. Local guides will give us an exclusive lesson in seeking out the rare delicacies and weโ€™ll have a chance to savour some delicious truffle products during a tasting session. Tonight, weโ€™ll come together in Sarlat-la-Canรฉda and savour a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Accommodation: Hรดtel Saint-Albert (or similar)

Here, weโ€™ll have the chance to sample some of the regionโ€™s โ€˜heavy redsโ€™ and say a final santรฉ. Weโ€™ll then return to Bordeaux, where weโ€™ll say our goodbyes.
