      This morning, we embark on a fascinating journey to the renowned Cape Coast Castle, originally known as Cabo Corso by the Portuguese settlers in 1555. Over time, the name evolved to โ€œCape Coast,โ€ becoming the recognized capital of Ghanaโ€™s Central Region. The Swedes, under Krusenstjernaโ€™s leadership, played a crucial role in establishing the enduring structure we now know as Cape Coast Castle. In 1653, they constructed a fort named Carlousburg, in honor of King Charles X of Sweden.Prepare to delve into history as we explore this significant site. After an insightful tour, our journey continues with a scenic drive to a nearby village, where an enchanting traditional naming ceremony awaits. Each member of our group will have the privilege of sharing their name, date of birth, and day of birth with the village elders. In a joyous celebration, the queen mothers will bestow upon you an African name, accompanied by lively festivities and engaging activities.Our exploration doesnโ€™t end there. We will also visit the Assin Manso slave river, a poignant location where enslaved individuals had their final baths before being transported to the castles for shipment. Prepare for a powerful and moving experience as we pay homage to the history and resilience of those who endured such hardships.

This historic structure holds great significance as one of the oldest European buildings in sub-Saharan Africa. Nearby, weโ€™ll also explore Fort San Jago, originally a Portuguese church dedicated to St. Jago, later fortified by the Dutch as a strategic gun position to capture Elmina Castle from the Portuguese.Continuing our journey, weโ€™ll visit the intriguing Posuban shrines that are an integral part of the Fante regionโ€™s cultural landscape. These shrines, found in various towns along Ghanaโ€™s central coast, are adorned with cryptic symbols and statues, reflecting the local traditions and beliefs. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage as we explore these fascinating sites.As the day comes to a close, weโ€™ll visit the fishing harbor and take a community tour, providing a deeper understanding of the local way of life. Ascending to an impressive height of 40 meters above the forest floor, youโ€™ll traverse five bridges, immersing yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the rainforest. During a guided tour of the park, youโ€™ll learn about the cultural, medicinal, and economic significance of the diverse plant life that thrives within the forest.       Today you will have the morning to yourself, you will drive to Shai Hills Resource Reserve arriving late morning. The forest guard will guide you for about two hours hiking to the Shai peopleโ€™s ancestral caves. You canโ€™t miss seeing some wildlife like Kobs, Olives Baboons, monkeys and several species of birds.
