How is the lodging in this experience?

The first night you'll stay in Finca Santa Elena, a rural house. The accommodation is simple, but clean and comfortable. It has 4 people shared rooms, bathrooms and showers. The nights 2 and 3 will be in cabins in the natural reserve of Taironaka, these have bathrooms and showers, and they have a double occupancy.

Do I need travel insurance?

It is not necessary, the guides or operating company already include a travel insurance. To review the details you can consult directly with them once the purchase of the adventure is made.

At what time should I get to Santa Marta?

It is better to arrive a day before the experience starts, because the tour begins at 8 am. However, if you arrive between 8-9 to the airport it is possible to start right away with the experience and the established itinerary.

Is there a minimum age required? Is the price the same for minors?

There is no minimum age required as long as the children can walk for 2 hours without a problem. Keep in mind that you have to carry your bags to the Santa Helena farm. It is the same price for minors and adults.

Are there toilets and showers? Is there Wi fi or phone signal?

There are bathrooms and showers in the farms. Regarding the phone signal and Wifi, it is almost null.

How are the meals included?

The meals are typical of the coast. In the Santa Helena farm you'll get soup, panela water, and handmade cheese. In Tyronaka you'll enjoy great sea food, including fish (snapper) or sea casseroles, patacones and rice with coconut.

What is the best season to go on this experience?

This experience is great at any time of the year, but in the Christmas season (Dec. 18-Jan. 15, it is very busy and you need to book at least 2 months in advance because everything is full in the coast. The same happens in Tyrona, which is VERY busy during this season; it may take up to 2 hours of waiting to enter the park and the beaches are full of people. Take into account that the park is closed from February 1st to February 28th every year.

Do I need any specific medical records or vaccination?

No, but we suggest getting the Yellow Fever vaccination.

What happens if I get sick or injured during the trip and I can't go on?

The guides would assist you according to the injury or sickness. This experience includes travel insurance, ask your guide for more information on the insurance coverage.

Which currency do you recommend to bring?

The official currency is COP, you can exchange to this currency in Santa Marta.

What is not included in this experience? Are there any extra expenses?

It doesn't include flights, some meals, or any other personal expense. The extra expenses are related to the former.

If it’s a group experience, what’s the size of the tour groups?

The groups include from 2- 12 people.

Do I have any spare time during the activities of the experience?

Yes, you will have different moments at leisure.

A meal may cost between 15 K- 50 k COP in Colombia.

If I get there a day before or leave a day after, where can I stay?

There are plenty of hotels available in Santa Marta, but we suggest Casa Verde.

At what time does the experience finish the last day?

You will arrive to Santa Marta at 8 pm approximately. We suggest booking your flight back home after 8 pm or booking an extra night in Santa Marta.

Day 1 Santa Marta- Minca- San Elena Property

Santa Marta- Minca- San Elena Property

You meet your guide upon arrival at the airport in Santa Marta. You have to get there by 8 or 9 am. From here, you take the transfer to the Sierra Nevada mountains. Sierra Nevada is the world’s highest coastal range, you'll see the Caribbean coast from the heights.
You are driven on terrain trucks from Minca (1 hour journey) to La Victoria Coffee farm. After tasting a cup of handcrafted coffee, you are driven to La Tagua, where you start the 2 hour hike to Santa Elena Property. Enjoy the warmth of the Colombian people during your homestay, where you'll get a special menu and a comfortable place to sleep and rest.

Day 2 Kennedy Hill Viewpoint- Taironaka Reserve

After a typical Colombian breakfast with fresh fruit and coffee, you start the hike to the mountain viewpoint at Kennedy Hill where you will admire a beautiful sunrise over the Caribbean. Later enjoy a well-deserved snack as you relax, and then hike back to the Santa Elena Property.
In the afternoon, you hit the road towards Taironaka Archeological Reserve, where you'll cruise through the river to get to the cabins, where you'll spend the next nights. Once there, rest at the beach and enjoy a typical costal meal.

Accommodation: Cabin at Taironaka Reserve, double room.
Hiking Time: 2 hrs.
Day 3 Kayaking at Don Diego River (Taironaka Resrve)
8:00 am - 8:00 pm

Kayaking at Don Diego River (Taironaka Resrve)

After a delicious breakfast, explore the area in the morning. This is an archeological site of the Koguis, an indigenous group that lives in Sierra Nevada.
Then sail along the Don Diego River in kayaks (4 hr. activity). You might spot some monkeys and tropical birds as they flock to a canopy that hangs over the river banks.
Arrive to a beach that is only accessible from the river and relax before taking a boat back upstream to Taironaka.
At night, enjoy dinner at the lodge.

Day 4 Taironaka- Tayrona Park- Santa Marta

Taironaka- Tayrona Park- Santa Marta

Move from Taironaka to Tayrona National Park, the most amazing spot in the Colombian Caribbean. The park hides beautiful beaches and wildlife, which you'll get to explore on incredible hikes from the mountains to the beach.
At the end of the day relax in the turquoise water and then, return to Santa Marta to catch your flight back home.
Note: Your flight need to depart after 8 pm; otherwise, we suggest booking an extra night in Santa Marta.
