      Then, you’ll visit Yasaka Shrine, which is renowned for its annual Gion Matsuri held every July, standing as one of the most celebrated festivals in Japan.       Next, you’ll visit Sanjusangendo which is the popular name for Rengeo-in, a temple in eastern Kyoto which is famous for its 1001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy of Japanese Buddhism. It is also home to a wooden statue of a 1000-armed Kannon (Senju Kannon) which is flanked on each side by 500 statues of human sized 1000-armed Kannon standing in ten rows.

      Then, you’ll experience the grand Nishiki Market: a narrow, five block long shopping street lined by more than one hundred shops and restaurants. Known as "Kyoto’s Kitchen", this lively market specializes in fresh seafood, produce, knives and cookware, and is a great place to find plenty of Kyoto specialties such as Japanese sweets, pickles, dried seafood and sushi.

      Itsukushima, also known as Miyajima, is an island filled with grand forests, temples and wild deer, make for a beloved tourist spot. The centuries-old Itsukushima Shrine (Itsukushima Jinja) is the source of both the island’s fame and its name: Miyajima literally means "shrine island" in Japanese. The shrine is known worldwide for its iconic "floating" torii gate, as the gate looks as if it floats when the tide comes in and the waters completely cover the ground.

      You’ll end the day at Kintai Bridge, a historic wooden arch bridge located in Iwakuni and constructed in 1673. It features a series of five enormous wooden arches spanning the Nishiki River. It is situated at the base of Mt. Yokotama, crowned by the renowned Iwakuni Castle built over seventy years earlier.

      Among the hundreds of Tenmangu Shrines throughout Japan, Dazaifu’s is the most important one alongside Kyoto’s Kitano Tenmangu. Tenmangu Shrines are dedicated to the spirit of Sugawara Michizane, a scholar and politician of the Heian Period. Because of his great learning, Michizane has been associated with Tenjin, a Shinto deity of education, and is popular among students.

      Today, you’ll visit the Kyushu National Museum. Open in 2005, it became Japan’s fourth national museum. The others, located in Tokyo , Kyoto  and Nara , were all built in the late 19th century, and the Kyushu museum is by far the most architecturally adventurous. Its glass walls reflect the sky and mountains behind and help the entire building blend into the surrounding scenery.

      Then, you’ll visit Nanzoin Temple in Sasaguri, Fukuoka Prefecture, home to what is possibly the world’s biggest bronze statue.  The Reclining Buddha’s dimensions are impressive, 41 meters in length, 11 meters in height, and weighing in at 300 tons it dwarfs the famous giant bronze Buddha statues of Kamakura and Nara.
