    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 11-26: Climbing Period [Base Camp โ€“ Ama Dablam Summit (6,812M) โ€“ Base Camp]

The climbing team will spend several days at the base camp organizing food, practicing rope skills, and acclimatizing before moving higher above the base camp. It is normal to spend at least one night in Camp 1 (5700m) to help with acclimatizing to these higher altitudes. We will climb Ama Dablam climb via the southwest ridge. Leaving the base camp we head eastwards to a wide saddle (5150m) from where we can see Mingbo La Pass. We then climb northwards and where it gets steeper at the start of a large area of boulders. We may decide to position an advanced base camp at 5400 meters just below the boulders. After crossing the east side of the ridge we come to Camp 1. From Camp 1 we follow the contour around the snowy bowl shaped area until we are below two rock fingers. We then follow the east side of the ridge is followed until we come to the ridge proper. A short part of ridge now leads to Camp 2 (5900m). Camp 2 has very limited tent space (three or four tent places) and is very exposed. It is often only used to store equipment with most expeditions choosing to go from Camp 1 to Camp 3 in a single push.

From Camp 2, the climb skirts a red rock bluff on the east and then follows the snow ridge. We then climb up through the gully between the Grey Tower and the lower rock buttress. We then arrive at the start of the Mushroom Ridge. Following this route usually involves navigating some steep snowy sections until we come to Camp 3 (6300m). The route then climbs the snow and ice slope immediately above Camp 3 and to the right side of Dablam. We continue to go to the right around Dablam and then head west to reach a small snowfield below the crevice. We cross the crevice and then head directly to the ice crest. From here we have a direct climb to the summit.
