Day 2: Kathmandu City Tour And Drive To Nagarkot

Today, youโ€™ll explore the historic and vibrant city of Kathmandu, often called the "City of Glory."

Start with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square, the heart of the cityโ€™s religious and cultural life. This area is renowned for its ancient temples and grand palaces, including Kal Bhairav, Hanuman Dhoka, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap, and Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Living Goddess.

Next, head to Swoyambhunath Stupa, one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the world. Perched high on a hill, it offers a magnificent panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding mountain range.

Proceed to Pashupatinath Temple, a major Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River, this vast temple complex is open only to Hindus within its courtyard, but tourists can view the temple from the eastern side of the river.

Later, visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world. This impressive structure features four pairs of eyes, each facing a different cardinal direction, symbolizing vigilance and the pursuit of righteousness.

In the afternoon, drive to Nagarkot, a picturesque settlement perched on a ridge just 32 kilometers from Kathmandu, taking about one and a half hours to reach. Nagarkot is famous for its expansive views of the Himalayas. After arriving, check into your accommodation and relax.

Everest and Kanchenjunga in the east, including Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Shisha Pangma, Dorje Lakpa, and Gauri Shanker.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Chitwan National Park, a renowned World Heritage site in Asia. Here, youโ€™ll have a fantastic opportunity to spot a diverse range of wildlife, including one-horned rhinos, Royal Bengal tigers, various deer species, monkeys, leopards, wild elephants, and over 450 species of birds.

To observe the diverse wildlife, birds, and rare flora and fauna, you can choose from several exciting options: embark on a jungle safari deep into the park in a four-wheel-drive jeep, take a guided walk, or opt for an exhilarating elephant rideโ€”though less comfortable, it offers a unique perspective. Afterward, enjoy a canoeing trip on the tranquil waters of the Rapti or Narayani River, and explore the surrounding Tharu villages. Conclude your day by watching a stunning sunset along the banks of the Rapti River, a memory youโ€™ll cherish.
