Itinerary of your trip Enchanting Cambodia: 6-Day Tour Of Its Pearls

  • Day 1 Arrival Siem Reap, Cambodia
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Arrival Siem Reap, Cambodia

Today, you will arrive in Siem Reap and be warmly welcomed by your tour guide and car driver at the airport. They will then transfer you to Siem Reap City where you will visit the Angkor Complex. If time permits, you will visit Angkor Thom, a fortified city that covers an area of 10 square km and includes many of Angkorโ€™s most popular sights. You will enter the city through the monumental South Gate over a causeway lined on either side by statues of demons and gods, each carrying a giant naga. Then, you will continue to the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper Kings, former spaces for public ceremonies, both adorned with dramatic bas-reliefs. You will also visit the ruined Baphuon, Royal Enclosure, and Phimeanakas before continuing to the mysterious Bayon Temple. In this temple, one of the most popular and compelling in Angkor, you will explore the galleries of beautifully preserved bas-reliefs and ascend narrow stairs to reach the central sanctuary, where you will find giant stone faces smiling enigmatically down at you from every angle.

Finally, you will visit a temple for sunset and watch the sun set over the Cambodian countryside from the upper terraces of an ancient Angkorian temple. Afterward, you will return to the hotel for check-in and stay overnight in Siem Reap. In case of a late flight arrival, all activities of Day 1 will be moved to Day 2 and Day 3, so you will not miss any activities of the tour.

Full Day Sightseeing In Siem Reap (B, L)

Begin your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, before embarking on a full-day tour of the most renowned temples on the Angkor plain, including Angkor Wat. This temple complex is spread across 81 hectares of land, comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its five unique towers are featured on the Cambodian flag, and this 12th-century architectural masterpiece is widely regarded by art historians as the quintessential example of classical Khmer art and architecture. The five towers of Angkor Wat symbolize Meruโ€™s five peaks, with the templeโ€™s enclosed wall representing the mountains at the edge of the world and the surrounding moat, the ocean beyond.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before proceeding to visit the South Gate, which boasts enormous statues portraying the churning of the ocean of milk. Next, explore the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century), the Bayon temple (distinctive for its 54 towers adorned with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara), the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephants Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King. Marvel at the sunset over Angkor Wat before returning to your accommodations in Siem Reap for the night.

More Sightseeing In Siem Reap (B, L)

After breakfast at the hotel, this morning we will drive through the typical Khmer countryside to the holy Kulen Mountain range, which provided some of the stones used to build the Angkor temples. Along the way, we can admire beautiful scenery before our vehicle takes us on a steep dirt road to the top of the mountain. At the top, we will first see the site of the Lingas carved in the riverbed by successive kings of the Angkor period. A further walk will bring us to the site of a huge natural rock, on top of which is a big reclining Buddha carved in the rock. Our walk will also take us to a waterfall, so donโ€™t forget your swimsuits and join the locals for a dip! More carvings in the riverbed can be discovered above the waterfall. This is also a popular place for Khmer people to come and enjoy their holidays with a picnic. We will then transfer back to the hotel for check-in. Overnight in Siem Reap.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Phnom Penh. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by your tour guide and car driver. The visit includes a trip to the famous Tuol Sleng Museum and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, both notorious for their role in the tragic history of Cambodia. Afterward, you will visit the popular Russian market, a lively outdoor market where you can find antiques, jewelry, and various remarkable souvenirs from Cambodia. • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Phnom Penh Sightseeing Full Day (B, L)

After having breakfast at the hotel, explore Phnom Penh, a chaotic, energetic, and always fascinating city. Graceful tree-lined boulevards and riverfront promenades are reminders of bygone eras; today, they teem with life and activity as motorcycles weave in and out of traffic, vendors hawk their wares, and pedestrians go about their business. Start your tour with an insight into Cambodiaโ€™s cultural heritage with a visit to the Royal Palace, which is still the official residence of King Norodom Sihamoi, and the adjacent Silver Pagoda, also known as the Pagoda of the Emerald Buddha. Continue to the elegant National Museum, which contains a comprehensive collection of Khmer Art. Finally, explore the modern-day city by visiting one of Phnom Penhโ€™s two great markets, the Central Market, located in a distinctive domed Art Deco building (currently under construction but can be visited as usual), or the sprawling Russian Market, a labyrinth of stalls selling everything from CDs and DVDs to silks, crafts, jewelry, and more.

Afterward, take an excursion to the Killing Fields just outside Phnom Penh in a peaceful rural setting, where the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek provide a stark reminder of the atrocities committed under the Pol Pot regime. Thousands of people were killed here between 1975 and 1978 and buried in mass graves.

Visit Tuol Sleng (S-21) to learn about a chapter from Cambodiaโ€™s more recent and tragic past. Formerly the Tuol Svay Prey High School, in 1975, this became the interrogation and torture facility for the Khmer Rouge regime, known as Security Prison 21, or simply S-21. Kept largely unchanged, this prison now showcases photographs and exhibits about the thousands of victims who passed through these doors - only seven of whom came out alive. The trip finishes at 6:00 pm. Return to the hotel for check-in and overnight in Phnom Penh.
