Commencing our day with a delightful breakfast, we embark on a journey towards Alghero, punctuated by captivating stops at three quaint and character-rich towns. Our initial destination is Oristano, a city steeped in captivating history intertwined with the Phoenicians and a national heroine, Eleonora de Arborea. Here, we delve into the cathedral and explore Oristano’s most prominent square before resuming our expedition.

Our next pause brings us to Tinnura, a petite village that invites a leisurely stroll to appreciate its enchanting murals. Continuing our adventure, we head towards Bosa, treating ourselves to a traditional Sardinian gastronomic experience at a local restaurant. Post a sumptuous lunch, we immerse ourselves in the charm of the picturesque town of Bosa, nestled along the banks of the Temo River, flowing into the nearby Bosa Marina beach. Sa Costa, the historic village flourishing around the 12th-13th century Castle of Serravalle, constructed by Duke Malaspina, is a highlight. Bosa is famed for its top-tier olive oil and wines, notably the Malvasia (a DOC brand), along with its historic tuna fisheries. Many of the town’s shops specialize in coral craftsmanship, gold filigree, and lacework.

Fondly known as "Barceloneta," it harks back to the days when it was part of the Crown of Aragon. Nestled within seaside walls, its unique location imparts a distinctive charm and atmosphere. Strolling through its old town adorned with noble palaces, churches, and concealed courtyards, Alghero reveals its captivating medieval allure.

Alghero boasts a rugged and splendid coastline, stretching over 100 kilometers (equivalent to 62 miles), adorned with secluded beaches along its path. At midday, a charming estate welcomes us for lunch, where we indulge in the exquisite flavors of Sardinian mountain and sea cuisine. In the afternoon, a panoramic drive along the coast unfolds, leading us to the breathtaking Capo Caccia Natural Reserve. The views from the cliffs and the lighthouse are nothing short of sublime. Returning to Alghero, you’ll have ample free time to explore and unwind. Find comfort in your accommodation, reflecting on the day’s enriching adventures. (B, L)

Commencing our day with a fulfilling breakfast, we embark on a journey towards Palau on the eastern coast of Sardinia, making captivating stops along the way. Our first pause is in Castelsardo, nestled near the renowned "Costa Paradiso," celebrated for its rugged and untamed beaches and rocky landscapes. This charming coastal village features tightly clustered houses between the sea and a castle perched high above. Our exploration includes delving into the historic center, savoring breathtaking panoramas.

Venturing further into the rural heartland of Gallura, our next stop is Tempio Pausania. This small town boasts one of the best-preserved ancient centers in Sardinia, inviting you to feel as though time has stood still while wandering its narrow streets and squares adorned with baroque churches and stone palaces. The journey continues to Luras, where we visit the Galluras Museum—a private collection curated by its passionate owner, who started collecting and exploring the history of the region from a young age. The owner personally welcomes and guides visitors through the museum spaces, sharing fascinating explanations and anecdotes that offer a captivating journey through history.

The museum, organized on three levels with entrance and exit through the ground floor, meticulously reconstructs environments with attention to detail, respecting the structure and balance of old Gallurese houses. A significant aspect of the visit revolves around the story of Femina Agabbadòra, a mythical female figure in the countryside known for using a wooden hammer to assist those in dire situations. The hammer was said to be wrapped in thick black orbace fabric. This figure inspired Michela Murgia’s book "Accabbadora," paying homage to one of Italy’s renowned contemporary writers who recently passed away at the age of 51.

Finally, our journey culminates in Palau, where you’ll check in and unwind in your accommodation, preparing for more exciting adventures in Sardinia. (B)
