Day 1: El Chalten - Laguna Los Tres

We leave early in the morning to the starting point of the trek located 20 kms away from town in our private vehicle to Hosteria El Pilar. Once arrived, we start to walk on the trail to Poincenot camp thru a forest of “Lengas”, typical Patagonic tree, having the Blanco River on our right. Here, we may leave our gear before continuing through Lenga (Southern Beech) forest and ascend to the Laguna de los Tres. At this lagoon we enjoy the closest, and best, views of the massif before returning to camp.

Always surrounded by Lenga forest, we take a short hike to our campsite where we leave our overnight gear before continuing on to the Maestri lookout. It was from here that the legendary climber planned his climb of Cerro Torre in the 50’s. From here we return to camp to rest.

Once across, our trail takes us through the forest, then along a rocky stretch and finally leads us to one of the best views in the valley: the Agachonas Pass. From this point we begin to descend towards the River Túnel Valley, with amazing views of the glacier bearing the same name and its neighbor, Mt. Solo. Once in the vast glacial valley we head westwards towards our next campsite at Laguna Toro.
