Pre-departure briefing TreXperience welcomes you to our Cusco offices on the evening prior to your trek for a pre-departure briefing. The briefings take place at approximately 6:00 pm. Because TreXperience recognizes that many hikers are nervous or inexperienced, the briefing is an opportunity to meet your guide, who will go over what to expect over the next few days. Our guides are very approachable and experienced, so feel free to use this opportunity to ask them any questions you may have. Permits All admission permits are included. In order to obtain all relevant permits for your hike we will require a photocopy of your passport. We kindly request you share this with the team as soon as you book your trek. Camping equipment Trexperience provide the best possible equipment to all clients, as well as staff, to maximise your experience. Porters Our porters carry all belongings that you donโ€™t need in your daypack up to a maximum weight of 7 kg. Additionally our porters carry all food and equipment. You will find your tents and the campsite prepared for you on arrival so all you need to do is worry about enjoying the hike! Medical kit All Trexperience guides have received training in first aid and high mountain rescue. In the event a guest requires medical attention while on the trek our staff will be able to assist you. A medical kit is kept with the team at all times. In extremely rare case of a serious medical emergency you will be evacuated to the nearest medical centre. Satellite phones To ensure your safety and in case of an emergency we are the first trekking company to introducing satellite phone technology. Taxes and fees All taxes and permit fees associated with this trek are included in the listed price.

Guide

Experienced tour guides The TreXperience team are fluent English speakers and are extremely experienced professional tour guides from the local area. We provide a single guide for groups of fewer than eight people and a second guide for groups of eight or more. We very much enjoy sharing our extensive knowledge of local history and culture with you along the trek. All guides are proficiently trained in high mountain rescue and first aid kits. We are committed to ensuring all clients have the best possible TreXperience!

Transport

TreXperience offers a door-to-door service; we will pick you up from your hotel on the morning of the trek and drop you off back at your hotel on the last day. All required transportation throughout the trek is included, as well as the Panoramic train back from Aguas Calientes.

Meals

Food TreXperience is proud of their highly talented chefs who never fail to cook up a delightful feast despite being in the middle of the Andean Mountains! We guarantee the biggest foodies among you wonโ€™t fail to be impressed. All breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are provided each day (except lunch on the final day), and the food is both delicious and plentiful. We cater for all dietary requirements, so please let us know of your needs. We will keep those energy levels high with snacks each day, and we will make sure you have a tea/coffee every morning to wake up and every afternoon to unwind. Water All drinkable water โ€“ from your first lunch to your last breakfast โ€“ will be provided (you need to supply your own water bottles/camelback and we recommend carrying at least 2L). The water is boiled, filtered, and cooled before it is distributed.

  • Day 1 Cusco Hotel โ€“ Humantay Lake โ€“ Salkantay Basecamp

      We will pick you up at your hotel around 4:30 a.m. (depending on your location) and drive you to the trailhead for 3 hours. After a delicious breakfast, your trekking staff will lead you on a 3-hour hike to Soraypampa (3900 m), where the chef will prepare a delicious lunch using fresh local ingredients. After lunch, we will continue the second part of the day with a 2-hour hike up to Humantay Lake (4200 m/13780 ft); after admiring the stunning turquoise water lake, we will continue to our campsite. Youโ€™ll observe a variety of flora and fauna along the way, including the Andean geese (the love bird), deer, and vizcachas (which look like rabbits) until we reach the basecamp at Salkantay Pampa (3900m/12467 ft). Weโ€™ll set up the tents, eat tea and dinner, and then stargaze before going to sleep.

  • Day 2 Salkantay Basecamp - Hayrajpunku โ€“ Collpapampa

      Weโ€™ll wake you up early with a hot cup of coffee or coca tea. When you exit your tent, youโ€™ll see a spectacular scenery of large plains and snow-topped mountain peaks.  After breakfast, weโ€™ll start climbing up to the Salkantay pass (4630 m/15190 ft), which is the highest point of our trek. At the top, weโ€™ll take the time to look at the beautiful scenery, including a beautiful lake at the base of this majestic mountain. From the top, the hike downhill to the burger place at Wayracmachay (3800 m/12467 ft) will take 3 hours. After lunch, we will start to go down from the highlands into the cloud forest. This will be one of the fastest changes in temperature and weather. We will see many different kinds of flowers, hummingbirds, and orchids on the way to Colpapampa, which is at an altitude of 2770 meters. Tonight, weโ€™ll sleep near a small village.

      After enjoying breakfast at the village of Collpapampa, begin your trek down to Lumabamba for lunch (2020 m/6627 ft). On the way, youโ€™ll encounter beautiful waterfalls, fruit-bearing trees, orchids, and hundreds of different species of birds. Upon arrival at Lumabamba, youโ€™ll participate in a Pachamanca unground barbecue, where you will help bury the food (all kinds of vegetables, meats, and fruits). While itโ€™itโ€™soking, you will visit a local coffee farm, where you will learn the harvesting process and prepare your expresso.

      After enjoying the delicious pachamanca, youโ€™ll youโ€™llr transportation for 45 minutes to Hidroelectrica and start hiking the final trek to Aguas Calientes. First, visit the Intiwatana rocks, perfectly aligned with the Sundial in Machu Picchu during the winter solstice, then start hiking along the train tracks for 3 hours to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in the town, youโ€™ll check-in at youyouโ€™lll, enjoy a relaxing hot shower, dinner in a local restaurant, and plan for the next and most important day.

      On our final day, we must wake up very early to prepare for the highlight of your TreXperience: a trip to Machu Picchu, the Incasโ€™ Lost City. We will proceed directly to the queue to wait the 5:30 a.m. departure of the first buses to Machu Picchu.  On a clear morning, the sunrise over Machu Picchu is stunning. Your guide will take you to explore in a 3-4 hour guided tour and then leave you in Machu Picchu to explore on your own or climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (tickets must be booked as far in advance as possible). Your guide will explain how to return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) and board the Vistadome Panoramic train and bus to Cusco. The TreXperience Team will meet you at the station and transfer you to your hotel safely.
