Day 1: Arenal Volcano Hot Springs

Stop At: Tabacon Hot Springs, Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa, La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano National Park, La Fortuna de San Carlos Costa Rica
Arrive at the San Jose (SJO) Airport in Costa Rica. After passing through immigration and customs, our driver will meet you outside the airport to greet you and to deliver your travel documents. We can also meet you at your San Jose, Heredia or Alajuela Hotel. We will then take you on a private land transfer (approx. 3 hours) to the Arenal Volcano Area. Later on, you might choose to enjoy a swim in the relaxing hot springs pools at your hotel.

Day 2: Your selection of a Guided Bilingual Adventure in Arenal

Stop At: Arenal Volcano National Park, Arenal Volcano National Park, Province of Alajuela
A full day for you to enjoy the Arenal Volcano Area. Take part on one already included half-day bilingual guided tropical adventure. You can choose from amongst the following wonderful briefly described activities:

• Sloth Watching Guided Walking Adventure: If you love sloths, we will take you to a small family-friendly eco-project which is located a few minutes away from La Fortuna. It features a trail of 1500 meters, (a little less than a mile), where you will enjoy an approximately two hour bilingual guided walk in the midst of plants, a tropical river and the Guarumo trees (Cecropia obtusifolia). These trees are by far, the sloths´ favorite food here in Costa Rica. The sloth is a solitary animal and it spends most of its time sleeping and resting on the treetops. The two-toed sloth and three-toed sloth can be found in this trail. It you are lucky, you might run into a mother sloth and its baby.

• Horseback riding to Fortuna Falls (We can also offer this adventure with a combination of guided car and hike): Ride on gentle horses to the Waterfall entrance, and then hike down over 1000 steps to see the magnificent waterfalls cascade. You will have the opportunity to freshen up swim in the river as well.

• Arenal Hanging Bridges: It is an impressive guided hike in the rainforest over a series of suspension bridges with your nature interpreter. View various types of flora and fauna at differing heights. What a wonderful way to see and experience the tropical jungle!

• Canopy Tour (Zip line): On this adventure, you can experience and enjoy the sensation of flying into the lush tropical forest, which is something really unique. This canopy is located at the canyon of the Arenal River for a perfect combination of nature and adventure. The 12 platforms, with cables of over 350 meters long and 80 meters high combine to make this an unforgettable adventure.

• Peñas Blancas River Safari Float: This is a wonderful chance to experience the peacefulness of the forest traveling on a raft with your guide on the Peñas Blancas River. It will afford you the opportunity to observe many animals such as monkeys, sloths, iguanas, tortoises, crocodiles, and many species of birds.

• Whitewater Rafting adventure at La Balsa River Class II & III: this is full day with lunch: This unique river trip is a fun way to combine adventure and nature. Challenge yourself as you paddle through fun & safe rolling rapids with names like "Morning Coffee" & "Rock around the Croc" and then play around in tranquil river pools in an isolated rainforest river canyon! And only 30 minutes from the town of La Fortuna. Your professional, experienced bilingual guides will give you a safety talk and paddling instruction, lifejackets, helmets & then you're off… You will likely see many birds, lots of rainforest wildlife and full or partial views of the Arenal Volcano weather permitting.

• Arenal Volcano Hike: The Arenal Volcano is one of the most impressive volcanoes in America. During this guided hike, it is possible to see a great variety of flora and fauna, while you walk through the old lava slides of 1991.

• Sky Tram (Aerial Tram): The Sky Tram offers gondolas that rise smoothly through the rain forest without much physical effort still offer a perspective of the canopy of the tropical forest where 80% of life exists.

• Bird Watching: We will meet you at your hotel at 5:15 am and we will take you to a rainforest for you to enjoy a light breakfast and a wonderful birding experience. The circuit trail combines tree plantations, a forest next to some important rivers, a secondary forest with open grasslands and pastures and small brooks which allow great opportunities for the observation of typical open area birds, aquatic and wooded area birds. Some common sightings include: Great Kiskadees (Pitangus Sulphuratus), Tropical Kingbird Flycatchers (Capsiempis Flaveola), Montezuma Orioles (Psarocolius Montezuma), Variable Seedeaters (Sporophila Americana), Tropical Tyrants (Tyrannus Melancholicus), Red-billed Pigeons (Patagioenas Flavirostris), and Groove-billed Anis and many others.

• Nature walk & Ecological Park & Butterfly Garden Danaus: This is a small ecological reserve. The circuit trail which is an easy walk through the regenerating secondary rainforest. We will find a Botanical Garden with more than 600 species of plants, a butterfly garden with more than 40 species, areas destined to natural frog reproduction and other areas dedicated to the exhibition of medicinal plants, a wetland which has been declared of national importance for bird nesting and observation as well as the Maleku House. The Malekus are representative of an indigenous tribe from the Northern Region, which allows us to learn a little about the indigenous culture of Costa Rica. In addition, the entire trail offers excellent opportunities for viewing frogs, serpents, turtles, caimans, monkeys, sloth, reptiles, agoutis, and birds. At the end of our adventure, we will have a short visit to the Eco center’s souvenir shop and enjoy a delicious snack of fresh fruit.

• Arenal Lake Boat Adventure and Trail Walk: This adventure is a combination of a guided nice boat ride on the Arenal Lake and a hike through the National Park. It allows you to enjoy impressive views of this mighty natural wonders. You will board the boat for the ride along the edge of this lake which allows sights of the rainforest, islands, aquatic birds and some of the local animals. This is a great place for taking beautiful pictures of the Arenal Volcano. Along the ride, your naturalist guide will explain the importance of this hydroelectric dam for the economy of Costa Rica. After about 45 minutes on the boat, we will arrive at the National Park Peninsula in order to start our 1km hike. This is a great trail for spotting wildlife and it is private. At the end of the trail, you will enjoy fresh tropical fruit and then our van will take us to the park’s observation point for a closer look at the volcano and to enjoy an explanation of the history, active cycles, and geological formation of this volcano.

• Chocolate Adventure: We will head down the road to the cacao plantation to learn about the chocolate making process, and get to taste some freshly made chocolate. Have you ever seen where cacao comes from? While in their pods, cacao beans are actually covered in a delicious fruity pulp that you can snack on before roasting the bean. After learning about the process and history of chocolate making, you will be impressed to find out what real chocolate looks and tastes like. This kind of chocolate has a wide range of health benefits so don’t feel guilty about eating a lot of it.

• Stand Up Paddle at the Arenal Lake: The mountains that surround the lake are different shades of green, as some are in the foreground while the others fade into the distance. When we reach the middle of the lake, our guide will give you plenty of safety instructions and plunk your board into the water. Paddle out on your knees and when you are ready, stand up and find your balance! The calm waters in the Arenal Lake make this a perfect sport for people of all ages and all skill levels. It’s a great activity for people who just want to be on a freshwater lake, soaking up the sun in gorgeous scenery with plenty of opportunity for conversation.

Day 3: La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Bajos del Toro

Stop At: Jardins da Cachoeira de La Paz, 126 6 km North from Vara Blanca Gas Station, Vara Blanca 00000 Costa Rica
Today, we will take you on an (approx. 3 hours) private land transfer to the Bajos del Toro area, stopping en-route at La Paz Waterfall Gardens for a wonderful hike and lunch. We will arrange for you to enjoy a private insider´s guided visit. This will be a great introduction to the wildlife you will continue to encounter along your adventure here in Costa Rica. You will visit a large indoor butterfly garden and aviary, a fun open-air hummingbird garden, a snake exhibit, an old Costa Rican house, a frog’s exhibit, a wild cat’s exhibit and monkey’s exhibit. You will also walk through spectacular and creative trails, which will take you to see the Waterfalls from several perspectives.

Day 4: Wonderful Cloud Forest Experience and Los Bajos Town Cultural Adventure.

Stop At: Bajos del Toro, Bajos del Toro, Province of Alajuela
In the morning your naturalist guide will take you on a private hike through the property trails. You will be guided along paths that trace a pristine creek to find three soothing waterfalls. Learn the fascinating secrets of the cloud forest eco-system. In the afternoon you will enjoy a private guided Los Bajos Town Cultural Experience. Los Bajos del Toro Amarillo is a thriving rural community with rich traditions, beautiful landscapes, and intriguing flora. This private guided journey pays a visit to local orchid enthusiast, Don Martin Porras and his private garden. His collection features more than 400 orchid species, from fun shoe-shaped specimens to tiny varieties of Lilliputian beauty. A magnifying glass is provided for a unique micro-safari. Followed by a stroll through the local town and a fun stop at Doña Olga’s Pulpería where you can palm fresh tortillas and buy local pastries.

Day 5: Tarcoles Adventure and Manuel Antonio White Sanded Beaches

Stop At: Vista Los Suenos Horseback Riding, 6km north of the Jaco Beach main intersection Jaco Beach, Puntarenas, Herradura, Garabito Municipality Costa Rica
Following breakfast, we will take you on a (approx. 4½ hours) private land transfer from Bajos del Toro to the Manuel Antonio Area, stopping en-route for you to enjoy lunch and one included shared adventure of your choice amongst the following activities:

• Horseback riding to a waterfall: You will enjoy a journey to the waterfalls and natural swimming ponds. Along the way, you will see farms, and get a closer look at nature, as you start ascending through the tropical rainforest. You may be able to spot some great wildlife such as: Toucans, Scarlet Macaws and White Faced Monkeys. Upon arrival to the tropical swimming pond area, your bilingual guide will serve you some fresh fruit and water for your enjoyment. You will have some time to relax and enjoy the waterfalls and even a natural slide.

• Jungle Crocodile and Bird Safari Boat tour: You will enjoy a wonderful adventure of crocodiles. It lasts about two hours in which you will explore the Rio Grande de Tarcoles, in one of our comfortable and safe boats. You will have the opportunity to see magnificent ancient reptiles, some of them with sizes of more than 4 meters. You will be accompanied by a Capitan and a bilingual guide, both navigation experts who are willing to provide all the information about the fauna and flora of the river. The Tárcoles River, woks as a biological corridor between the park and the mangrove forest with many different kinds of birds Here is a little video on the crocodiles.

• Canopy Zip-line tour: You may have the opportunity to view scarlet macaws, chestnut mandible toucans and white-face monkeys. This adventure starts on a 15-minute ride aboard our specially designed tractor. Once you arrive to the top of the mountain, your bilingual guides will explain step by step all the safety procedures you must follow to safely enjoy your adventure, we then descend to the bottom via a series of zip lines, including 14 platforms and 12 cables with a total cable distance of 3.5 kilometers including the longest cable in the area (2400 ft.).
• ATV Jungle Adventure: We will take you through jungle trails, rivers and fun muddy dirt paths. Later you can take a quick swim in a natural swimming pool.

Vanilla is the most popular flavor in the world. It is also the second most expensive flavoring agent. Each vanilla orchid is carefully fertilized by hand and during pollination season, visitors learn how to pollinate vanilla flowers. Vanilla is the only edible member of the orchid family and the largest plant family on the planet. You will experience the sights, tastes, and aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, pepper and other tropical spices, essential oil plants, and many other tropical ornamental plants.

• Chocolate-Sugar Cane and Coffee Experience: Start with an explanation of the cultural and biological background of cacao in the world and here in Costa Rica. Learn about the collecting, fermenting, grinding and finally the making of chocolate, the drink of the gods. Then, we continue with the coffee and its importance for Costa Rica’s economic and cultural development. Visit a showroom with important coffee picking instruments and real producing plants to better explain the process of coffee production. Learn how to make Café-Chorreado, the authentic Costa Rican practice of preparing coffee. Finally, we will take you to the trapiche: A sugar cane mill run by two beautiful oxen (fast & furious). Experience how to grind sugar cane to extract the juice and make all types of local and delicious candy that you can try such as Dulce, Sobado, Espumas and Miel. Our naturalist guide, (Nature interpreter) will meet you at your hotel lobby to take you to enjoy this park holds some of the most beautiful pristine white-sanded beaches in the country & trails through tropical rain forest which are filled with wildlife. Learn about this magnificent and fragile Tombolo which is white sand all the way to the bottom of the sea, yet it features a fresh water lagoon and grown tropical rain forest trees. Enjoy the chance of watching sloths on the trees canopy, and several species of monkeys including the howler and the white-faced monkeys. Witness iguanas resting in the tropical rain forest, and listen to the calls of the many birds as they glide above your head. If you are lucky, you might spot one of the only 1,000 remaining endangered Mono Titi or squirrel monkey, which are endemic of this park. Relax and swim at one of the country’s prettiest beaches.
