The entire stage from Most na Soฤi runs along the walking path to Tolmin.

Tolmin is a nice town built on the terraces above the confluence of the rivers Soฤa and Tolminka. The area itself is quite popular among the residents and also a famous venue of international music festivals in summer. Tolmin is an old town with a castle on the picturesque Kozlov rob above the town. The town itself has been known since WWI as the start point of the famous Isonzo Front. After eleven bloody Italian offensives, the Austrian and German military forces broke through the front in the twelfth Isonzo battle and pushed the Italian army back to the Piave River.

Today, Tolmin is the administrative centre of the valley and a starting point for various activities for visitors.

  • Day 3 Hike From Tolmin To Kobarid
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Hike From Tolmin To Kobarid

      Meals: Breakfast, dinner

      Distance: 17km, 4hours

The trail starts at the paragliding landing site โ€“ Kobala nad Tolminom, which is one of the most popular paragliding sites; in beautiful weather we can see hundred or more paragliders flying above the alpine peaks. Continue along the banks of the Soฤa River through the sunny villages of Gabrje and Volarje. In Seliลกฤe, we cross the small Volarja River that springs below Krn, which hides a range of most beautiful and highest Slovenian waterfalls. Between Kamen and the Church of St Lawrence we walk in the fairy forests and along the paths that run among the ancient, moss-covered walls. The church was the last home of Simon Gregorฤiฤ, one of the most famous Slovenian poets. He worshipped the Soฤa River in many of his works. We reach Kobarid through Ladra, the last village along the trail. Kobarid played an important part in WWI. The Battle of Kobarid (which actually started in Tolmin) resulted in the breakthrough of the Austrian and German Army at the twelfth, last offensive on the Isonzo Front, and Kobarid or Caporetto is still the synonym for a catastrophe in Italian language. Kobarid Museum displays exhibits on the events that occurred during World War I on the Soลกka fronta - Isonzo Front.

Soฤa, softly running across gravel pits in its lower part, foams in wild rapids and deep pools. We can follow its wild stream whole day long, and hike through the areas that have carried the name and the glory of the river among the wild water buffs all over the world. The section between Kobarid and Trnovo is intended only for kayakers. The area of Trnovo is used for world competitions in kayaking. The upper part between Trnovo and the Boka Waterfall, is intended for rafting, which can be experienced also by complete beginners who can also in this way enjoy in paddling through the wild rapids.
