Itinerary of your trip Mekong Delta Cycling Tour 4 Days

  • Day 1 Ho Chi Minh - Cai Be (Lunch)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Ho Chi Minh - Cai Be (Lunch)

Leave the busy streets and buzzing city of Ho Chi Minh City behind and drive toward the Mekong Delta by road. Upon reaching Cai Lay, unpack the bikes for the short journey to Cai Be. Pedal along back roads approximately 1.5 hours enjoying the scenic views.  Stop for lunch on an island in the middle of the Mekong before continuing on to a local home stay. Living in a typical Vietnamese house, with airy rooms and outdoor kitchen, they welcome guests with gracious hospitality and the experience offers a true taste of Delta life. The rest of this afternoon is free to bike the dirt paths surrounding the home stay. Dinner will be prepared by the home stay hosts.

Overnight in a local home stay, Cai Be.

  • Day 2 Cai Be - Tra Vinh (Lunch)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Cai Be - Tra Vinh (Lunch)

This morning transfer by road to Vinh Long and embark on a boat journey out to one of the Mekong Islands. Bike along narrow country lanes, easy dirt tracks and trails. This is biking at its most glorious: passing through tiny orchards, witnessing colorful riverside life, pedaling across innumerable wooden bridges and pausing to chat with welcoming villager. Cross a narrow canal on a local sampan and reach the main ferry for a refreshing boat trip across the expansive Co Chien River. The final stretch of the ride is along quite roads to the charming Khmer town of Tra Vinh. Arriving early this afternoon, there is plenty of time to explore side tracks and trails. Todayโ€™s journey is a great first impression of the โ€˜Heart of the Mekongโ€™.

      Overnight in Tra Vinh.

  • Day 3 Tra Vinh - Can Tho (Lunch)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Tra Vinh - Can Tho (Lunch)

Today is a unique day of riding and sightseeing as much of the area is populated by Khmer people. The regional architecture is interesting and there are many Khmer temples to stop and admire en route.

Cycle as much or as little as is preferred as the support vehicle is following at all times. The road is peaceful, narrow and very pretty all the way to Can Tho! Pedal to Ba Om Pond with its magnificent lotus flowers and observe local women having their future predicted in the small temple nearby. En route, visit a local Buddhist Temple School and learn about the life of the students. Arrive late this afternoon at Can Tho, the Mekongโ€™s largest town located at the confluence of the Can Tho and Hau Giang Rivers.

      Overnight in Can Tho

  • Day 4 Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh

After enjoying an early breakfast, weave through the bustle of the teeming morning market and cycle along the banks of an active riverfront. Continue on a narrow paved road to Phong Dien floating market and absorb the sights of endless cottage industries, timber merchants, coconut shredders and small docks loading and unloading rice. The next stretch of the journey follows a narrow lane to explore the hidden backwaters of the Delta and the towns of O Mon or Binh Thuy. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Can Tho, checking out of the hotel and return to Ho Chi Minh City.
