      Today, we will be traveling towards Mitlung/Sinuwa by crossing a small river using a suspension bridge. Our trail will descend towards the Tamor River, where we will walk through villages and terraced fields. We will pass by some small villages where we can meet local people. After reaching the Tamor River, we will follow some narrow trails close to the river. Then, we will hike uphill gradually through the terraced fields and a few houses to reach the village of Hellok.

      In the morning, we will catch a flight to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu, which offers breathtaking views of the eastern region. After a 45-minute flight, we will arrive at the Bhadrapur airport. From there, we will take a car or jeep to Illam or Taplejunga, which is an approximately 8-hour drive. During our journey, we will stop at the beautiful tea garden of Illam, also known as the Garden of Nepal, for lunch. After lunch, we will continue our journey towards Taplejung, where we will spend the night.

      Today, on our third day, we will be trekking from Hellok to Mamasik. We will be descending an upward slope while encountering beautiful and friendly local people. During the trek, we will have small tea breaks that will give us plenty of opportunities to interact with the locals and have a look at their beautiful houses and domestic animals. On our way to Mamasik, we will walk along the Simbuwa Khola. Our overnight stay will be in Mamasik.

      Today, we will hike gradually and follow the Sibuwa River. We will cross the river once again to our left side. After that, we will hike uphill for a short distance to keep a safe distance from the Sibuwa River. During our hike, we will pass through rhododendrons, bamboo bushes, and thick forests to reach Tortong. Along the way, we might spot some wild animals, such as red pandas, wild boars, bears, musk deer, wild birds, and other different wild animals. We will spend the night in Tortong.

      Today, we will be trekking through the dense forest trail that is filled with beautiful bamboo and rhododendron trees and is accompanied by a river. Later, we will walk along the Simbuwa Khola, which is gradually uphill, and after some time, we will reach Cheram, where we will stay overnight.

      After having breakfast, we start our short trek. We ascend for some time from Cheram and eventually reach the snout of the Yalung Glacier. This part of the hike is particularly beautiful, as we walk on a trail through a valley. We get to witness some stunning views of the Himalayan peaks along the way. Eventually, we pass through a small settlement called Lapsang before finally arriving at Ramche. We will spend the night in Ramche.

      We start our trek from Ramche and follow the valley further up. Afterward, we walk along a stream and then climb up to the mountaintop to reach the southern face of Kanchenjunga. Continuing ahead, we catch a glimpse of the Jannu Himal before reaching the Oktang Monastery. From there, we make our way to the Yalung Base Camp. The views from the base camp are breathtaking, with peaks like Kumbakarna (Jannu) and Nyukla Lachung close by. After enjoying the stunning scenery, we descend and spend the night in Cheram.

      We will start our trek after having breakfast. Our journey for the day includes crossing four passes, starting with Sinelapche Bhanjyang. After crossing the pass, we will continue trekking towards Mirgin La Pass. As we continue walking, we will reach the Sinon La pass, which is not very far from here. From this point, we will ascend towards the Sele La pass. Along the way, we will come across prayer flags strung across one of the steeper sections of the trail, which is very close to the Sele La pass. After crossing the pass, we will spend the night in Sele La.

      We start our trek after having breakfast. We walk towards the north while Tangbgharma Danda lies close by. We come across a chorten adorned with prayer flags, which signifies the beginning of a steep trail. We descend through the rhododendron, birch, and pine forests before finally reaching Ghunsa. It is a picturesque village consisting of charming houses with day.

      Ghunsa is a stunning town that is home to the Sherpa people, known for their unique and beautiful culture and way of life. We are planning to take a day off from our travels to explore this beautiful place. During our visit, we will explore the monastery, Juniper and incense factories, and antique shops that sell handmade carpets. Ghunsa is also an important gateway to the North and South Base Camps of Kanchenjunga.

  • Day 11 Ghunsa โ€“ Kambachen (4,050M) 6 Hours

      We will start our trek from Ghunsa and head further north along the river bank. This route will take us to breathtaking views of the mountain scenery. Along the way, we will pass through meadows filled with stunning wildflowers. We will also cross rhododendron and pine forests. Later, we will cross a bridge at Rampuk Kharka followed by a waterfall and a tricky section of a landslide. After crossing the landslide area, we will finally get to see the spectacular view of Mt. Jannu. We will then continue exploring and tackling the tricky mountain trail until we finally arrive at Kambachen, where we will spend the night.

      Today is going to be another challenging day, so we need to start early. Our trek will take us through rocky fields and large boulders on the hillside, along the riverbank, until we reach a beautiful waterfall. Then, weโ€™ll cross a bridge to get to the Ramtang monastery. After that, weโ€™ll pass through a landslide section, which weโ€™ll need to do at a steady pace before descending to the river and finally arriving at Lhonak. Weโ€™ll stay overnight in Lhonak.

      We will be starting our trek from Lhonak and heading towards the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The trail we follow will be alongside the massive Kanchenjunga Glacier. Once we pass Pangpema, we will begin our descent towards the base camp. The view from the base camp is truly breathtaking, as we get to admire Mount Kanchenjunga, Jannu Himal, Makalu, Barunche, and other Himalayan peaks. After taking in the stunning views, we will descend back to Pangpema, where we will spend the night.

      The route we took while descending from Pangpema to Ghunsa via Kambachen was the same route we took while climbing up.

      We will begin our descent from Kambachen towards Phale. Along the way, we will pass several manis and a monastery. The trek takes us through Juniper forests until we arrive in Phale. The descent to Gyabla is steady and we will cross a bridge over river Chhundatangka before reaching Gyabla. As we continue our trek, we will come across a nearby waterfall and then cross a suspension bridge over river Sumbung before finally reaching Amjilosa. We will be staying overnight in Amjilosa tonight.

      After walking for some time, we came across a stunning waterfall nearby. Continuing our trek, we passed by a small Solima settlement before crossing a suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola. After crossing another suspension bridge over Ghunsa Khola, we finally reached Sukathum. Our trail took us through several villages and was initially beside Thunsa Khola. We then followed Tamor Nadi before reaching Hellok.

      Today, we will be embarking on a journey to Taplejung Bazaar in a private car or jeep. During the drive, we will witness the beautiful Nepali culture and lifestyle while passing through a cardamom garden and a picturesque rice paddy field. After roughly six hours of driving, we will reach Illam Bazaar,, where we will spend the night. Once we arrive at Illam, we will explore the town and its famous business hub, which serves as a trading center between India and Nepal. Illam is renowned for its local products, such as tea, cardamom, ginger, ghee, chili, and various household items.

Moreover, we can buy various types of tea and local products from Fickal Bazaar or Kanyam. After that, we will head to Bhadrapur airport for our flights and return to Kathmandu on the same day.
