      Day 4: Auckland To Whitianga

Auckland is beautiful, but you must have come to New Zealand primarily for the wonderful nature. Thatโ€™s exactly why weโ€™re leaving New Zealandโ€™s largest city and heading to the coastal town of Whitianga in the east of the Coromandel Peninsula. Here youโ€™ll have all the time in the world to take a walk along nearby Buffalo Beach. Take a deep breath and enjoy the cool ocean breeze.

You probably donโ€™t have a shovel for digging, but donโ€™t worry, your hands will do just as well. Hot Water Beach lives up to its name. The rising hot springs stretch along the sandy beach of the same name, and at low tide you can dig yourself a little warm water pool here - a childhood dream come true. For the rest of the day itโ€™s pure relaxation! Or would you prefer a little adventure? Then try one of our optional activities.

Hot Water Beach is an attraction that draws a lot of guests and it can get quite crowded at times at the beach.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Whitianga To Rotorua
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Whitianga To Rotorua

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Coromandel Peninsula was rife with gold rushes. Today itโ€™s your turn to try your luck as we follow in their footsteps. You will hike for about two to three hours through the Karangahake Gorge, which reminds us of this exciting time. And then itโ€™s on to Rotorua. It may be the first thing you do when you get off the bus is to hold your nose. Rotorua is located in the unique and most active thermal area of New Zealand, and sometimes you can smell it. The chemical processes of sulfur and sulfides put your olfactory nerves to the test. But your eyes will thank you when you see the wonderful play of colors. In the evening you will visit the Mitai Maori Village and experience a traditionally prepared Hangi (dinner) and a Maori demonstration.

      Meals
Breakfast in a cafรฉ and dinner are included for you today.

      Accommodation
      Sudima Lake Rotorua
Sudima Lake Rotorua welcomes you on the shores of Lake Rotorua, close to the famous Polynesian spa. Day 18: From The New Zealand Alps To Christchurch

Take another walk along the shore of the turquoise lake and visit the picturesque chapel "Zum guten Hirten". Through a window at the altar of the small church built of fieldstones, catch a last glimpse of the snow-covered mountains before you continue your journey to Christchurch. This has changed a lot after the earthquake of 2010 and is still in constant change. Your tour guide knows the area very well and will tell you about the latest developments. In the afternoon you can explore Christchurch on your own. Stroll to the Canterbury Museum and through the beautifully landscaped botanical garden or let yourself be driven through the city in the historic streetcar. There may be some time left to drive to the Port Hills on the outskirts of the city with your tour guide. Take a walk along the cliffs of Godley Head and soak up the panoramic view of the green hills and the bay of Christchurchโ€™s harbor, Lyttleton. You can end the evening together in a bar in the lively Oxford Terrace directly at the river. A good opportunity to review the many impressions of the trip in a convivial atmosphere.
