  • Day 1 Day 1: Arusha To Mkomanzi National Park
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Arusha To Mkomanzi National Park

      After breakfast in your hotel in Moshi you will pack a picnic lunch and then drive to Mkomazi National Park. Mkomazi is located in the northeast part of Tanzania. Attractions here include the mighty river and other watering holes that attract black and white rhino, silver backed jackal, lion, cheetah, leopard, lesser kudu, giraffe, buffalo, elephant and zebra. Bird watchers will also delight in trying to spot any number of the parkโ€™s 450โ€™s avian species, from wood hoopoe to tawny eagle, parrot to kingfisher. Herds of tall slender-necked gerenuks, with their bizarre alien-like heads, survive in Mkomaziโ€™s arid lands where other antelope cannot. Gerenuk can even stand on their hind legs to stretch for tiny leaves on thorny bushes and trees. In the evening you will head to the Budget camping for dinner and your overnight stay.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Mkomazi To Lushoto

      Day 2: Mkomazi To Lushoto

      Upon your arrival you can go on an optional (free) hike and then check in at the Tumain Hostel (or other preferred accommodations). Relax for a little while and then go to the Usambara Office for a briefing on your safari tour. Trek to the Irente viewpoint to watch the sunset. You will then walk or drive the 15km back to Lushoto for your overnight stay.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Lushoto To Lukozi

      Day 3: Lushoto To Lukozi

      Today you will trek for 8-10 hours covering 23km. After breakfast you will be picked up at the hotel and start walking with your packed lunch in hand. You will walk uphill through the villages to the Magamba rainforest for your overnight stay at the Papaa Moze Lodge in Lukozi. The forest is home to black and white Columbus monkeys, two horned chameleons, and an incredible landscape. The lodge is local and features neat, self-contained rooms

  • Day 4 Day 4: Lukozi To Mgwashi
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Lukozi To Mgwashi

      Today you will trek for 4-5 hours covering 18km. With a picnic lunch in hand you will pass through Mgwashi villages, farming areas and spend the night at the Rangwi sistersโ€™ convent. This incredible landscape gives you the chance to interact with the local ethnic groups and learn about their traditional ways of living. You will also learn about the Shambaaโ€™s irrigation practices as well as local medicinal herbs. Accommodations will be basic and neat with shared toilets in Mgwashi.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Mgwashi To Mtae
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 5: Mgwashi To Mtae

      Today you will trek for 6-7 hours covering 18km. You will trek to the pottery village for a workshop. This area sits at the escapement of the Mtae mountains and offers a world class view of Tsavo West National Park and Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance. You will eat lunch with the Ernest family and then make your to Mabughai for your pottery workshop. Here you will learn how to make pots using clay soil. Keep hiking to the escapement of the Usambara mountains while enjoying nice views of the plain. Your overnight stay will be at the Mambo Cliff Inn.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Lushoto To Arusha

      Day 6: Lushoto To Arusha

      Early in the morning you will take public transport to Lushoto and then to Arusha.
