Itinerary of your trip Self Drive Hot Springs Chile’S Lake District

  • Day 1 Temuco, La Araucania Airport. Arrival And Drive To Pucón
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Temuco, La Araucania Airport. Arrival And Drive To Pucón

Arrival at La Araucania Airport in the city of Temuco.  Pick up your car at the rent a car counter and get ready to explore the worders of the Lake District.  Drive up to Pucon located on the shores of Llanquihue Lake with magnificent views of the distant volcanoes.

Depending on your flight departure, we suggest you to visit a couple of sites in Temuco: Ñielol Hill, climb from the top of this Natural Heritage Site and you’ll have a privileged view of the city that mixes the countryside and the modern world. Enjoy its forests full of Chilean acorn trees (peumo), boldo trees, olivillo trees, oak trees, bay trees, and ulmo trees. You just might get to see endemic fauna if you are lucky, such as the South American gray fox, rufous-tailed hawk, Chilean slender snake, and the Chilean four-eyed frog. From the summit you can behold all of Temuco and catch an incredible glimpse from up high. Or maybe visit its history museum which has a neat and valuable permanent collection, made up by cultural assets from the Mapuche-Pehuenche communities, the Spanish immigrants, Europeans in general and Chilean colonists. The archeological, ethnographic, pictorial, photographic and historical displays from 1400 to 1800 are made up by more than 3,000 objects. One of the most outstanding items of this heritage is the collection of Mapuche textiles and jewelry, dating back from the XIXth century.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Pucon/Huerquehue National Park/Pucon (Approx. 150Km Round Trip)

Today we recommend drive towards Huerquehue National Park is located in eastern Pucón, over 12.500 hectares of protected soil. You can get there by taking Route 119 from Pucon, down the road to Caburga Lake and taking the detour to Paillaco. Other ways, depending on your starting point, is the Mamuilmalal Curarrehue International Road. Some roads are only open in summer time.

The best way to really see the park is on foot, so several excursion paths have been defined, which go over the entire territory and display the wonderful flora and fauna to the visitors.

One of the paths is Tres Lagos and Ñirrico, which are educational roads where people can learn about the ecosystem of the park, how mankind has inflicted damage on nature and how catastrophes can be avoided if we learn how to be more careful with the environment. Tres Lagos is 8km long and it begins in the administration of the park. It is a guided excursion that lasts about six hours, back and forth. You can see flora and fauna, several lakes (Verde, Toro, Chico), and it is a path recommended for everybody. It is open only in summertime.

Ñirrico, in the meantime, is a short path of only 700m. It is covered in about two hours and you do not need a guide. There are nine stations in it where you can learn about vegetation and fauna, all the species you can see inside the park.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Pucón/Geometricas Hot Springs/Pucon (Approx 170Km Round Trip)

Today we recommend you to visit Geometricas Hot Springs,  anciently called Cajón Negro, are inmersed within the majestic beauty of the Villarica National Park, near the town of Coñaripe. These are the result of an ambitious project carried out by architect Germán del Sol. By constructing with wood and noble materials, he sought to take nature into geometry so as to achieve a harmonious whole. This new, original thermal complex is located next to the Aihué stream, which has abundant water sources. One of its special features is the wooden footbridge that crosses by the entire center and is used to visit the ravine. Under this bridge, 450 meters below, thermal waters flow until arriving at different wells through a wooden gutter.

In the middle of the forest is this architectural bet, where apart from taking a hot and relaxing bath you can observe the nature and the originality and modernity of the structure of the geometric spas.
