Meals

All breakfasts, six lunches and five dinners are included. Moroccan food is, generally speaking, excellent, though not particularly varied. Breakfasts usually consist of bread and jam with coffee or tea. Where meals are not included, budget for the following approximate prices: Lunches: 60-100 dirhams (US$6-US$10) Dinners: In cities: 80-200 dirhams (US$8-US$19) Small towns and villages: 60-100 dirhams (US$6-US$10) Soft drinks in restaurants: 10-20 dirhams (US$1-US$1.90) Alcohol: Beer: 30-50 dirhams (US$2.85-US$5) Wine: 150 dirhams (US$14) and more Vegetarians can be catered for but there is a fairly limited choice of vegetarian couscous, tajine or omelettes. This is particularly the case during the more rural sections of the trip. Please note, if you have any special dietary requirements, you should inform us prior to the trip. If you have a specific medical/dietary need (eg coeliac or vegan) you may find it helpful to bring some food with you from home.

Transport

Your luggage will be carried by the support vehicle (long-wheelbase four-wheel drives), which will follow the group at all times. If you decide to ride the singletrack trails, the support vehicle canโ€™t follow; however, it will never be too far away. You may ride as much or as little of the route as you like. The only things you need to carry with you on the bike are your valuables, sunscreen, camera and water bottle, etc.

Accommodation

We stay in a combination of three- and four-star hotels during this trip. Our hotel in Tafraoute has a pool and pleasant terrace where you can take in the views. In winter, some of the accommodation can feel quite cold as they are often poorly heated or not heated at all. Some properties in more rural areas may only have power in the evening (which also means only heating in the evening); however, blankets are provided to keep you warm at night. Accommodation standards are comparable to that of Sub-Saharan Africa. Some hotels have more facilities than others and the star rating in Morocco is quite different to what you may expect at home. The accommodation shown has been booked and agreed in advance, however we may need to make changes to a property of similar or higher standard after you have booked. We will endeavour to inform you of any changes in advance which could, on rare occasions, be at late notice.

Day 2: Transfer To Tafraoute In The Heart Of The Anti-Atlas Mountains. Introductory Ride Through A Lunar Landscape, Passing The Mysterious Blue Rocks (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner)

Leaving Agadir in our 4x4 vehicles, we drive across the plains of the Souss Valley. We climb into the heart of the Anti-Atlas range, reaching the high mountain pass of Tizi Mlil, above the old garrison town of Tafraoute (three-hour transfer). From here, we get on our bikes and descend on a sealed track to Aguerd Oudad, where we meet the vehicles before heading onto gritty pistes through the boulder-strewn moonscape to a series of intriguing rocks painted a bright blue. Following non-technical gravel tracks across the high-altitude plains, we return to Tafraoute on a mix of good paved routes and sweeping singletracks through beautiful palmeries. Today's ride is a relatively easy introduction to prepare us for the days to come. Accommodation: Hotel Les Amandiers (or similar)

Day 3: Spectacular Ride Through Impressive Gorges And Lush Palmeries Around Ait Mansour (Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner)

Today's ride follows a spectacular route through the impressive gorges and lush palmeries around Ait Mansour. After a short transfer high into the mountains behind Tafraoute to Tizi Tasrite, we begin our 47mi (75km) ride, descending through a landscape that dramatically contrasts with what we saw yesterday. The scenery is breathtaking as we descend through impressive gorges, following dry riverbeds in places and passing through small Amazigh villages. Today, we have 15.5mi (25km) offroad and the rest is on paved routes, including some massive downhill sections (and one long optional climb on a paved route). We return to the hotel on bikes. Back in Tafraoute, we can relax by the hotel bar and pool or walk into town to visit a carpet shop before dinner at the hotel. Accommodation: Hotel Les Amandiers (or similar)
