  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival In Accra

      Arrival

      Upon arriving at the Kotoka International Airport, a guide or driver will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel. They would also assist you with your hotel check in and preparations for the next day. Hotel Check in begins at 12:00pm

      Morning Activities

      Your guide will take you to exchange your currency for Cedi. For guests who prefer to use the ATM or bank, you would be taken to the closest one available to get some money. For guests who are interested in sewing some African attire, we can arrange a meeting with a tailor to take your measurements and styles for sewing.


      Aburi Gardens

      Guests would visit the Aburi Botanical Gardens, an eco-friendly site that is focused on the protection of plant and animal species, opened in 1890. The garden has various botanical plant species with origins from different parts of the world. Some were planted by colonial governors and leaders in Africa and beyond like, Sir Gordon Guggisberg, General Olisengo Obasanjo, H.E Jerry John Rawlings, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles of Britain, and many others. These plants are used as food, for medicinal purposes, spices for food preparation and beautification.

      Assin Manso Slave Camp 

      Drive from Accra to Cape Coast with sightseeing en route. The Assin Manso Slave Camp is a historical site where slaves were taken for their last bath before moved to the castles for shipping into the new world. The slaves were captured from different places and neighboring countries, taken through paths in the forests on foot, half naked and in shackles from the north to the south of Ghana. The site is a  slave burial site and it also houses the tombs from the remains of descendants of slaves that were returned from the diaspora. Guests would have the opportunity to get close to their ancestors, as people believe the spirits of many ancestors reside there and can be felt.

       

      Cape Coast Castle

      Guests would visit one of the largest castles built by the Europeans in 1652 to keep slaves. This was where slaves were kept before being taken to the โ€œnew worldโ€ through the door of no return. The door of no return is now referred to as the door of return to signify the return of the descendants of slaves from the diaspora. The castle has served various purposes and is currently designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the history of slavery is kept authentic and told from the African perspective.

      Kakum National Park

      There would be a visit to the Kakum National Park, the second  largest national park in Ghana. It is the home for various animals, reptiles and birds that are dominantly nocturnal; active and usually seen at night. There is a 15 minute walk/hike to the canopy walkway, the main attraction of the visit. The walkway was built by 2 Canadians and 6 Ghanaians in 1994, about 40-50 metres high with a distance of about 350 metres. The walkway gives an aerial view of the forest and guest safety is assured as three of the Ghanaians who helped to build the walkway are still with the park and carry out frequent maintenance. This tour is recommended for those who would want to conquer their fear of heights.


      Elmina Castle

      The Elmina Castle is the oldest and the largest castle below the Sahara built by the Europeans in 1482. It was initially built as trade settlements with warehouses for keeping goods and items exchanged. Later, the warehouses were converted to male and female dungeons where slaves were kept for a maximum of 3 months to be shipped to the โ€œnew worldโ€. The Elmina castle is now recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Castle has served many purposes like Prisons, as a secondary school, and is now a historical site that connects guests to their heritage and roots.

      Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm

      The Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm is the first cocoa farm in Ghana planted by Tetteh Quarshie in 1870, located at Akuapim Mampong. Guests would be taken through the process of cocoa plantation from planting to harvesting then through the fermentation process which gives farmers raw cocoa beans that are exported in their raw state or sold to manufacturing companies for processing. Two of the original trees planted by Tetteh Quarshie himself still remain in the farm, bearing fruits. Ghana is known to be the leader in the production of quality Cocoa and the second in quantity after Ivory Coast.


      Shopping for Souvenirs 

      Guests who are interested in shopping for  souvenirs to take back home with them as a reminder of their travels and to show where they have been can do so on this day. If you want to experience a local Ghanaian market, we would definitely recommend visiting the Makola Market which has a very vibrant atmosphere and you can find so many Local things to purchase.  Tourists who are interested in arts and crafts like wood carvings, paintings and African printed clothes and accessories can also visit the Accra Arts Center or the Osu Oxford street. 

      NB: You have the option of going shopping by yourself with an Uber or Taxi or we could make arrangements for our driver to drive you to these shopping centers.

       

      Nightlife

      Guests who are interested in having a nightlife experience in Accra would be able to visit any of these hangout options (but not restricted to these options) provided to have a feel of Accra at night. Some of these hangouts options have contemporary live band music with good food and drinks. Please note that you would sometimes have to pay a fee to enter some of these venues which guests will  be required to pay for themselves (venue fee could range from a minimum entry fee of GHC50 to GHC100).

      could make arrangements for our driver to drive you there.

      Cedi Bead Factory

      Guests would get to learn the history behind the use of Ghanaian beads, how to make them and also check out already made beads displayed for purchase at the Cedi Beads Factory. These beads are handmade from recycled glasses, crushed and melted in ovens, polished and uniquely designed for occasions like puberty rites, marriages, naming ceremonies for individuals and royals. The beads are currently displayed locally and in some international museums like the Newark Museum, Dabls Mbad African Museum, and Picard Trade Bead Museum in the United States.


      Boat Riding on Lake Volta

      There will be a boat ride on Lake Volta where guests will get to see the highlands and beautiful islands surrounding Lake Volta. The Volta Lake is the largest man-made lake in Ghana and one of the largest in the world. Guests would have a view of and appreciate the popular Adomi Bridge built over Lake Volta by the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, to connect the Eastern Region to the Volta Region.

      Meet with Tailor to Pick Up Clothes

      On day 8, guests can meet with the tailor to pick up Clothes and if there are any alterations to be done on the clothes, it would be done on this day. 


      Kwame Nkrumah Museum

      Guests would visit the Kwame Nkrumah Museum/Memorial park. It is the final resting place of the first president of Ghana, who liberated Gold Coast from Colonial rule. The museum houses the personal effects and publications of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah at various stages of his life from childhood to his political life till his overthrow and death. There are some pictures and videos showing his life history with some famous personalities across the world. The premise was where Kwame Nkrumah stood to declare Ghana independent. 


      Arts and Craft Market

      The Arts and Craft Market is a community of stalls where crafts and souvenirs inspired by the Ghanaian culture like kente cloths, beads, carvings and many other accessories are exhibited for purchase. Guests get the opportunity to move from stall to stall to appreciate and purchase some memento as memories from their visit to Ghana. Vendors are also always at the service of guests and are willing to persuade in their bid to convince guests to consider their wares since there are similar items available at the same venue by various sellers as well.


      Black Star Square

      Guests would visit the Independence Square also known as the Black Star Square. It is a vast expanse overlooked by stands that can seat about 30,000 people. It was built by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to commemorate Ghanaโ€™s independence as a symbol of national unity and self-reliance and commissioned during the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Ghana in 1961. The Square hosts major national and commercial events within the country. It has features like the Independence Arc, the Flame of Liberation and the Black Star Monument.


      Guests who are required to get a Covid Test before departing from Ghana can do so on Day seven after breakfast before beginning with the activities at the tour sites.

      On the last day, guests will have some time for last minute preparations like exploring the city on their own (depending on your time of departure), packing, hotel checkout, and receiving covid test results before checking in at the airport for final departure.


      Please note that, hotel checkout is at 12pm.
