      You will be received at the airport by representatives of LandTours and a cultural troop who will greet your arrival with a flamboyant performance. Transfer to your hotel for a welcome orientation.

      Day 2: Accra City Tour

      After breakfast, depart for a sightseeing tour of Accra. You will drive through the administrative and economic districts of Accra, the capital of Ghana. This 137-year-old city has a blend of colonial and modern architecture that summarizes her history. You will visit the fancy coffin makers, the W. E. B.

      Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture, Independence/ Black Star Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. End your tour at the Arts Centre where you will have an opportunity to use your bargaining skills to shop from an open-air market for artifacts from Ghana and West Africa.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Village Naming Ceremony

      Day 3: Village Naming Ceremony

      This day will be spent in the celebration by reclaiming your true African name in a special village naming ceremony. You will be led in a procession to the Paramount Chiefโ€™s Palace where the whole village will be assembled. The Paramount Chief will perform the special naming ceremony after a round of hearty welcomes and speeches. No less than a hundred locals will be present to participate. The naming ceremony, a spiritual and memorable experience, begins with the drumming of the โ€œfrontomfromโ€ drums and dancing performed by local village dancers, who will also extend an invitation to the group to participate in the unique cultural dance. After the drumming and dancing,

      your family head and elders of your village will jointly name you after a great personality in your family or community.

      After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart for Kumasi. the seat of the Ashanti Empire and explore the legends of the famous Ashantis whose legacies are still evident today. Check into your hotel upon arrival and relax.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Kumasi City Tour โ€“ Ashanti Craft Villages

      Day 5: Kumasi City Tour โ€“ Ashanti Craft Villages

      After breakfast, visit the Manhyia Palace Museum to get the sense of a day in the life of an Ashanti ruler (Asantehene). At the museum, you will obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti kingdom, a regal history that dates back to 1700 and is told with relics and artifacts. Enjoy a drive through the city of Kumasi to view monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. Your next stop will be the National Cultural Center, featuring the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and the studios of various potters, brass and batik makers. You will also visit the craft

      villages of Ahwiaa (known for its woodcarving) and Bonwire (which specializes in โ€œKenteโ€ weaving). After your tour, return to your Hotel.

      On this day, you will have the privilege to witness the special Akwasidae Festival. Commemorative rituals and events are held in Ghana by the Akans every six weeks, honoring the ancestors and in the Ashanti region the Ashanti king. Akwasidae, according to the Ashanti cultural archive records

      is an ornate ceremony, commemorating the date that the Ashanti Golden Stool was magically brought down from heaven. The festival, therefore, features a golden stool alongside the central feature of attention, the Ashanti King, who is carried on a palanquin through the procession of

      Ashanti people who have come to pay homage to him. A visit to Kumasi during an Akwasidae celebration is an invitation for spectacle. A celebration which parades colorful canopies

      and umbrellas amongst fontonfrom, kete and mpintsin drummers, dancers, horn blowers and singers who perform in honour of their ancestral spirits. After enjoying depart for a drive to Elmina City located in the Central Region. En-route, visit the craft villages of Ahwiaa (known for its woodcarving)

      and Bonwire (which specializes in โ€œKenteโ€ weaving). Unwind and relax after arrival in Elmina.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Assin Manso - Elmina Slave Castles

      Day 7: Assin Manso - Elmina Slave Castles

      After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart for Elmina where you will visit the infamous forts, castles and slave dungeons of Ghana. On this day, you will experience the physical history of the slave trade, the impact of which is still felt beyond the shores of Africa today. En-route, stop at Assin Manso. This was the final transit point for enslaved Africans before being shipped off to the new world. You

      will have the opportunity to visit the slave dungeons as well as the final resting place for two ancestors whose mortal remains were returned from the USA and Jamaica and reinterred in Ghana. After lunch, visit the Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 and also known as St. Georgeโ€™s Castle. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub โ€“ Saharan Africa. Spend a moment admiring the colorful harbor nestled just below Elmina Castle. Full of pirogues preparing to go to sea, this site offers one of West Africaโ€™s greatest photo opportunities. Upon return to your hotel, participate in โ€œkasaโ€ (talk time) which gives you the opportunity to share impressions of the tour as well as life experiences.       Day 8: Kakum National Park And Cape Coast Castle

      After a hearty breakfast, depart to explore the historic Denkyira Kingdom, particularly Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of West Africaโ€™s surviving tropical rain forests, spanning over 360sq km and filled with diverse and dense vegetation. A blend of true rainforest and semi-deciduous forest, Kakum is the home to over 40 large mammals, 400 bird species and a breathtaking array of butterflies, flora, and fauna. The most popular attraction in the forest is the Canopy walkway which is made up of

      seven bridges extending 330m and hanging 40m above the forest floor. You will be given the choice to walk the canopy or enjoy a 2km nature walk through the forest to discover

      the wide variety of exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer. After your day hike, stop at the Kakum Rainforest Cafรฉ for lunch or a snack. Visit the Cape Coast Castle, which was built by the Swedes in 1653 and later taken over by the British. The castle also houses the West African Historical Museum, established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian

      government in 1994.
