Itinerary of your trip 3 Days La Guajira

  • Day 1 Manaure, Uribia Y Cabo De La Vela
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Manaure, Uribia Y Cabo De La Vela

Start your day early to maximize your experience in the Guajira region of Northern Colombia. Depart from your Santa Marta hotel at 4 am and embark on a scenic drive to Uribia, the indigenous capital of La Guajira. Explore the town and visit the Wayuu cultural center to delve into the rich history of this ancient culture.

Next, head to the famous Salinas de Manaure, where youโ€™ll join a community leader for a tour of the salt ponds. Learn about traditional salt extraction methods and indulge in a Thalassotherapy session. Afterward, enjoy a two-hour journey to Cabo de La Vela, a stunning location. Take a guided hike to the sacred Wayuu site, Pilรณn de Azรบcar, and then unwind on the beautiful beaches of Playa Dorada and Ojo de Agua, where you can witness a breathtaking sunset.

Return to your lodging for a delightful dinner and a deeper understanding of the Wayuu indigenous culture. Learn about their family structure, the significance of a nearby sacred mountain, and the journey of Wayuu spirits after death.

Remember to wear comfortable and cool clothing, bring closed shoes for walking, sandals for the beach, a swimsuit, and a hat/cap to protect yourself from the sun.

  • Day 2 Bahia Honda, Taroa Dunes, And Punta Gallinas
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Bahia Honda, Taroa Dunes, And Punta Gallinas

Following breakfast, youโ€™ll continue your journey towards the most northern point of South America, Punta Gallinas. On the way, youโ€™ll be making a stop in a beautiful bay called Bahia Honda. While there youโ€™ll have time for a cooling swim and some lunch in a restaurant overlooking this wonderful ocean.

Next, itโ€™s back to your vehicle to cross the arid desert and a stop in yet another world-famous location, Las Dunas de Taroa (The Taroa Dunes). Walking or running over these giant sand dunes feeling the wind in your hair and the sand between your toes will fill you with joy and a sense of dreaming in this magical place. Looking out to the sea and bathing in this special and unique landscape youโ€™ll fall in love with this destination and contemplate how this corner of Colombia has given such a wonderful feeling of peace. In a place like this where time has little value, you can enjoy a swim in the ocean before setting off to Punta Gallinas, and yet another magical location, the beaches of Punta Aguja. Once here youโ€™ll visit the lighthouse and soak in the beautiful atmosphere while waiting for the most amazing and stunning sunset to appear before your eyes.

Following this, youโ€™ll travel back to your lodgings where youโ€™ll try your hand at weaving as instructed by the Wayuu, along with learning about some local projects developed by the Bahรญa Hondita community. With one of these projects, youโ€™ll get to release a turtle into the waters, as well as receiving a gift of a small turtle carved from the wood of a cactus. With another, you will learn and come to understand the cosmogony of the Wayuu and of the universe.

Arriving in time for lunch youโ€™ll be visiting the Maliwala Refuge, where youโ€™ll get to enjoy some of the most amazing dishes of the Guajira.

Once youโ€™re fully satisfied, youโ€™ll continue your journey to enjoy some relaxing me-time on the Mayapo beach for an hour or 2. Famous not only for its beauty and sandy beach, but also its good winds, and great waves, this location is ideal for water sports such as kitesurfing.
