  • Day 3 Merit Making History And Culture In Bangkok
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Merit Making History And Culture In Bangkok

Culture and History in Incredible Bangkok

Dive deep into Bangkokโ€™s living history and culture: soothing chants emanate from Wat Phoโ€™s inner sanctum; monks purify prostrate believers at Wat Hua Lampong and religious awe takes centre stage at the Grand Palace.

Depart the hotel at 8am to explore two of Bangkokโ€™s most significant, and one of its lesser known, cultural sites. The early start ensures the opportunity to witness Wat Phoโ€™s monks gather for their morning chant โ€“ these mantras are used for both learning and demonstrating devotion to Buddhist teachings. (Fun Fact: the Thai word "Wat" tranlsates to "temple" and you will see this word everywhere on your trip around Thailand)

Wat Pho is home to the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including the famous Reclining Buddha. The Reclining Buddha statue is an impressive 46 meters long and 15 meters high, covered in gold leaf. The temple is regarded as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. The temple houses a renowned massage school where visitors can learn the ancient art of Thai massage. The school is still in operation today.

Right next to Wat Pho Next up is the Grand Palace, Thailandโ€™s most famous site. Do be prepared for crowds as tourists can clog the grounds during the day. Our expert local guides will find quiet areas to relay the palaceโ€™s religious and royal significance. The Grand Palace has been the seat of the Thai monarchy for more than two centuries, and houses a number of halls, temples and museums. Within the grounds is the Emerald Buddha, Thailandโ€™s most revered relic.

After a busy morning, itโ€™s time to sit down and relax with lunch at a restaurant along the Chao Phraya River, overlooking Wat Arun across the water.

Finish the day with a visit to Wat Hua Lampong, popular among locals, but rarely visited by tourists. The temple offers a carnival-like atmosphere for making merit. You can light candles and float them around a makeshift river, sign little bells, be blessed by a monk, and donate to the Coffin Temple. The trip will end around 2pm.

      Important Information:

Appropriate dress is required to enter the temples and The Grand Palace, with visitors expected to dress modestly and cover their shoulders and legs.

      Inclusions:

      English Speaking Guide

      Transportation

      Meals and Snacks as mentioned

      Entrance Fees

      Drinking Water

      Additional Notes:

      Approx. 2 km of walking

Free Day In Phuket + Transportation Options

To allow you a little time to recover from your trip and to allow you to enjoy the excellent facilities at the hotel, weโ€™re giving you a free day to relax.

Phuket, a popular destination in Thailand, is undoubtedly one of the most amazing places in the world. This tropical island, also known as the Pearl of the Andaman, boasts stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and vibrant culture. Thereโ€™s something for everyone in Phuket, from the lively nightlife to the peaceful retreats in the mountains.

One of the biggest draws of Phuket is its beaches. With over 30 beaches to choose from, visitors are spoiled for choice. Some of the most popular include Patong, Karon, and Kata, which offer plenty of activities such as jet-skiing, parasailing, and snorkeling. But for those looking for a more peaceful experience, there are plenty of secluded beaches to explore, such as Nai Harn and Surin. The water is always warm and inviting, making it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply lounging on the sand.

Phuketโ€™s culture is also a big part of what makes it such an amazing place. The island is home to a mix of Thai, Chinese, and European influences, which can be seen in its architecture, food, and festivals. The Old Town in Phuket City is a great place to explore this cultural heritage, with its colorful Sino-Portuguese buildings, traditional markets, and street food stalls. Visitors can also learn about the islandโ€™s history at the Thai Hua Museum, which is housed in a former Chinese school.

For those who love nature, Phuket is a paradise. The island is home to several national parks, including Sirinat and Khao Phra Thaeo, which offer plenty of opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife spotting. The parks are also home to several waterfalls, such as Ton Sai and Bang Pae, which are perfect for a refreshing swim on a hot day. And if youโ€™re lucky, you might even spot some monkeys or elephants!

Of course, no trip to Phuket is complete without experiencing the delicious cuisine. Thai food is known for its bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and colorful presentation, and Phuket is no exception. Visitors can try traditional dishes such as Tom Yum Goong (spicy shrimp soup), Pad Thai (stir-fried noodles), and Massaman Curry (a mild, sweet curry with peanuts). Seafood is also a specialty in Phuket, with plenty of restaurants serving up fresh fish, crab, and prawns.

Finally, one of the most amazing things about Phuket is the people. Thai people are known for their warm hospitality and friendly nature, and this is certainly true in Phuket. Whether youโ€™re interacting with the locals at a market or being served by a waiter at a restaurant, youโ€™re likely to be greeted with a smile and a friendly conversation. The islandโ€™s laid-back atmosphere and welcoming culture make it a great place to relax and unwind.
