      Maras, Moray & Chinchero

We will start our adventure with the Maras, Moray & Chinchero Tour, we will pick you up from your hotel around 8 am and head to Moray. The trip is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes between completely beautiful Andean landscapes. We will see beautiful snow-capped peaks of the Andes, through lush yellow wheat fields, passing through some picturesque villages.

Finally we will arrive at the gigantic circular Inca terraces of Moray. Moray has three of these amphitheater-shaped terraces built in Inca times. It is believed that these terraces, dug into the earth in the shape of a bowl, were used to determine the optimal conditions for crops.

When you finish exploring Moray, you will head to the salt mines of Maras, which are about 3 kilometers away. This town is known as an ancient salt production center that is believed to date back to pre-Inca times. There are more than 3,000 salt pools, all dug into the mountainside, which are filled daily by a small salty stream of water.

The last place to visit is Chinchero. Here we will be able to admire the well preserved Inka walls of the main square, as well as the numerous altars, an Inca site that corresponded to the palace of the Inca Tupac Tupanqui. We will also visit the beautiful colonial church built over the Inca site, unique for its art and interior imagery. We will then participate in a wonderful introduction and learning experience in the art of Andean weaving. Throughout the afternoon we will become familiar with the wisdom of these weavings and how they have been maintained over time, even since pre-Inca times.

Departing your hotel in Cusco we will travel by our private van to the town of Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. From here, a train will take us roughly an hour down the valley to our starting point at kilometer 104 of the railway to Machu Picchu. Our journey begins at the banks of the Urubamba River and slowly ascends to meet up with the original Inca Trail at the site of Winay Wayna, before continuing on to Inti Punku (the Sun Gate) and into Machu Picchu.

Along the way we will pass through dense cloud forest with its rich variety of plants, flowers, birds, and if we are lucky, some of the local mammals such as Viscachas (rabbit-like Chinchillas) or the rare Spectacled Bear.

After a full day of trekking, we will arrive to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). In the afternoon weโ€™ll get our first views of Machu Picchu stretched over the mountain ridge below. The lighting at this hour of the day makes for amazing pictures. Descending from the Sun Gate, we continue along the beautiful paved stone path to Machu Picchu, but only to the famous โ€œlook-out pointโ€ above the main part of the citadel. From here we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes in the valley below. Then weโ€™ll go to or hotel for check-in and dinner.

We will be able to observe the design of the construction of the archaeological, a place that if it is appreciated from the air has the shape of a partridge.
