About Uganda

Uganda uses the Ugandan shilling (symbol: Sh), code UGX.Banknotes come in denominations of 50000, 20000, 10000, 5000, 2000 and 1000 shillings. Shilling is subdivided into 100 cents. Coins come in denominations of 500, 200, 100, 50 and 10 shillings.
Automatic teller machines are rare in Uganda. Your best bet is to look for them in large cities and community places.You do not need a chip & PIN card to use an ATM โ your standard magnetic card will work fine.
Internet speed in Uganda is on average 1.7 Mbps. WiFi coverage in Uganda is very low. It's quite hard to find one.
You can buy a SIM card for about 55,288.44 UGX, which includes 1 GB of data plan. You can choose from 6 telecoms: Africell, Airtel, MTN, Smart Telecom, Smile or UT Mobile (by Uganda Telecom). Uganda uses GSM mobile networks GSM 900 and GSM 1800. If you don't want to buy SIM card in Uganda upon arrival, make sure to check the roaming charges with your telecom provider before your departure so there are no surprises when you return home.

Zika is a risk in Uganda.
