Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek 26 Days

This tour includes:

Meals

Three meals a day (Breakfast Lunch and Dinner) with tea or coffee during the trek Fresh fruit every evening after dinner.

Special Trekking permits, Kanchenjunga Conservation Area permits, and other required paper documents. Medical supplies (first aid kit will be available). Arrangement of Emergency Helicopter service which will be paid by your Travel Insurance Company. Your personal expenses. Hot shower and battery charging at the tea houses.   • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival In Kathmandu & Transfer To Hotel.

      A representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will be there to meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel โ€“ the tourist hub of Kathmandu. Today, or early tomorrow we will have a pre-trek meeting where you will have a chance to ask questions about the trek. You will also be introduced to your guide. Please bring your passport, 3 passport size photos and a copy of your travel insurance policy. This is also the time to clear up outstanding fees. During your free time today, you can wander around the winding narrow streets of Thamel and do some last-minute shopping before your trek.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Sightseeing Around Kathmandu Valley.

      This morning we will head to several historical and well-known sites in Kathmandu. Your guide will take you to the famous Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world: the pagoda-shaped temple of Lord Shiva is visited by thousands of people every year. We will also visit the Bouddhanath Stupa, a place where pilgrims visit โ€“ both Buddhist and Hindu. This is one of the most significant Buddhist shrines in the world. Another place we visit is the renowned Swayambhunath Temple (the monkey temple). Finally, we head to the Durbar Square with its unique architecture and temples.

      This morning we will pick you up from your hotel and head to the airport for a scenic morning flight to Bhadrapur. From Bhadrapur we will driver for around seven to eight hours until we reach Suketar Village.

      Today we follow the trail through the lush green lower hills passing by rivers and along some steep ridges. Along the way, we pass some traditional villages with their distinctive mud houses, rice fields, fruit trees, and terraced farms before descending down to the Tamur River from where we head upstream passing several out-of-the-way villages. We eventually reach the Tamang village of Sinuwa where we stay overnight.

      Shortly after leaving Sinuwa Village, the valley narrows as we cross the remnants of landslides and over boulders before descending to Thiwa Khola and crossing over a wooden bridge. The trail then follows the undulating and natural contour of the terrain before reaching the market town of Chirwa. From Chirwa we follow the trail next to the Tamur River before finally reaching Tapethok.

      This morning we climb a spur and then descend to Simbuwa Khola and cross the bridge over the river. This river has is origins at the Yalung Glacier. We again head along another ridge before reaching the Ghunsa Khola Valley. Once we reach the junction of the Tamur River and Ghunsa Khola we continue on for a short while before making camp beside the river for the night.

      After leaving Sakathum we head northeast alongside the banks of the Ghunsa Khola and then climb higher in the heading toward Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The trek takes us across an bare landscape and then have a steep ascent to the Tibetan village of Amjilosa, where we stay overnight.

      Today the trail passes through rhododendron and bamboo forests. Climbing higher we arrive at a huge waterfall on the side of the river from where we take the path to Gyabla where we have superb views of the surrounding terrain.

      Leaving Gyabla the trail heads through a large meadow and through a small village. We have to then climb a hill before descending to the river before reaching Gunsa Village, a large Tibetan village with traditional wooden houses, a school, health post, and a hydro-electricity plant. The village falls within the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and has several Gompas (Buddhist fortifications/temples) where people commonly rest and exchange stories of their journey. Tonight we stay in Gunsa, the very last village in the valley.

  • Day 10 Day 10: Acclimatization Day In Ghunsa.

      Ghunsa is an ideal location and at a high enough altitude for us to undergo the acclimatization process. It is strongly recommended that during the acclimatization period we do not remain idle. To stay active we trek across the river to an altitude of 400 meters above the village, about a 4-hour return trip. For the rest of the day, we will wander around this Tibetan village and chat with the locals and observe their rich Buddhist culture.

      This morning we follow the trail through stunning pine and rhododendron forests along the south bank of the Ghunsa Khola with numerous chortens and Mani walls along the trail. After trekking across several slopes and glacier moraines we arrive at Kambachen - a small Tibetan village with only a few houses and surrounded by mountains. Tonight we stay in this quaint village.

      This morning we come to the source of the Ghunsa Khola and trek along the north side of the Kanchenjunga Glacier. We then take the trail along flat terrain past the Lhonak Glacier until we arrive at Lhonak. At this elevation, the air is crisp and cool, but we are rewarded with splendid views of Wedge Peak, Mera Peak, Nepal Peak, and the Twins that will leave you captivated. Tonight we stay at Lhonak.

      Today we head east following the same glacier on the northern ridges until we arrive at KBC. It is also called Pang Pema. From here we have some beautiful mountain views. We will then return to Lhonak to spend the night at a lower elevation.

      Today we retrace our footsteps back to Ghunsa where we will spend the night.

      Todayโ€™s trail crosses a steep rock-strewn trail that passes through a forest before taking us to High Camp. We spend the night just beyond the pass at Sele la Kharka that is just above the pass.

      Today is one of the most memorable days on the trek as we cross two passes; the Sele La Pass (4480m) and Sinion La Pass (4660m). From Sinion La Pass we descend for about 1000 meters until we come to Tseram where we will stay the night.

      Today we trek across the terminus of Yalung Glacier into a washed-out valley. The peaks in this region span Nepal- India border. Along the trail blue sheep can be seen on the grassy slopes. From Ramche, we trek along rocky trails and across moraines until we finally arrive at Oktang Glacier. We then head back to Ramche for the night.

      From Ramche we once again retrace our footsteps back to Tseram where we spend the night

  • Day 19 Day 19: Trek To Lashe Bhanjyang (3370M) Duration 5-6 Hours.

      This morning we descend to Simbuwa Khola as we retrace our footsteps. The descent is much easier and gives us enough time to admire the surrounding views and orchids in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. We pass through Toronton and then come to Lashe Bhanjyang located just below the Amji Khola (river). We will stay here overnight.

      Todayโ€™s the trail heads through Lamite Bhanjyang and its thick pine forest. On the trail, we will hear the chorus of many birds. After crossing the Amji Khola we head down to Yamphudin where we stay the night.

      As we descend today we follow a trail next to the Kabeli Khola. several waterfalls can be seen on the trail. Tonight we stay at Phumphe Danda.

      Leaving Phumphe Danda we climb across a ridge before heading down through a succession of valleys just past Phun Village. The next stage of the trek takes us to Kesawa and then through the Gurung village of Bhanjyang. We will then follow a ridge and descend to the Limbu village of Kunjari. Tonight we set up camp on the banks of the Pha Khola (river).

      It is our last day on the trail as we head to Taplejung. It is a tiring day as we climb and then descend until we arrive at Taplejung where we will stay overnight.

      This morning we head out on a long drive to Birtamod in the Jhapa District and not far from our departure point at Bhadrapur. We will stay in Birtamod for the night.

      This morning we will take a flight to Kathmandu. This evening you can relax and once again enjoy the warmth of Thamel with its many restaurants, cafes, and bars. It is a time to celebrate the completion of this exhausting trek to Kanchenjunga.

      A representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will take you to the airport at least three hours prior to your scheduled departure time.
