For the first four hours, the road is sealed - up to Dhading Bensi, the district headquarters of Dhading (1050m). After leaving Dhading the road to Arughat becomes quite rough and bumpy. We then head to Nauli Khola (river) and cross a suspension bridge and then follow the trail on the banks of the Budi Gandaki River before coming to Machha Khola (900m). Many trekkers were marooned here after the earthquake in 2015 and had to be rescued.

We then head higher and above the junction of the Buri Gandaki and Shar Khola Rivers and to Pewa before finally arriving at Deng (1860m) where we will stay the night. • Day 9 Day 9: Acclimatization Day At Samagaon.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 9: Acclimatization Day At Samagaon.

At higher altitudes, we need to get acclimatized for at least one day before climbing higher. Health specialists suggest that during this acclimatization process we stay active. One option to stay active is to explore the Gompa at Pugyen (4070m), a one day trek that leaves the trail between the villages of Syaula and Sama. We may also continue trekking up this valley to the rocky terrain of the Pugin glacier. Another option to stay active is a trek to the lake at Birendra Tal (3450m) and then a hard ascent to Manaslu Base Camp (4900m). The cave north of Birendra Tal is said to be Milarepaโ€™s Cave (famous Buddha saint) where he meditated while on a retreat.

  • Day 10 Day 10: Trek To Samdo (3,860M) 4- 5 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

We then continue to the white Kani Gateway signifying the entrance to Samdo (3860m). We can also trek to the peak above the village for unbelievable views of Mount Manaslu. If it is necessary to further acclimatize there is a 6 to 7-hour trek of 640 meters to the moraine of the Fukang Glacier where you will be stunned by the widespread views towards passes used by locals to cross into Tibet.

It is likely you will see Himalayan blue sheep on your trek to Dharamsala (4480m). This is as high as we ascend today without risking altitude sickness. This leg of the trek is often subject to snowfall between mid - December to mid -March, when snow commonly blocks access through the pass. Samdo Lodge is typically closed. Your guide will have advance warning if the lodge is closed.

  • Day 12 Day 12: Cross Larkya La (5,160M) & Trek Down To Bimtang (3,720M) 8-9 Hours.

The climb to the Larkya La Pass (5100m) is at first a gradual ascent but then gets steeper as we get nearer to the pass.
