Our first stop is Durbar (Palace) Square, the heart of religious and cultural life in the city. This area is rich in historical significance and showcases the beautiful Newari architecture. Notable sites include Kal Bhairav, Hanuman Dhoka, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap, and Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Living Goddess.

Next, we will visit the Swoyambhunath Stupa, one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the world, which offers a stunning view of the Kathmandu Valley from its hilltop location. Our tour continues to the Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This vast complex is situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. While only Hindus are allowed inside the temple courtyard, tourists can view the temple from the eastern side of the river.

Our final destination is Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. This impressive structure features four pairs of eyes, each facing one of the cardinal directions, symbolizing vigilance and the watchful nature of the Buddha.

Heading to Namche Bazaar, we pass through the charming hamlets of Zamphute and Tok Tok, where we catch glimpses of the dazzling Thamserku peak glistening in the sun, a sight that accompanies us for most of our trek. As we continue, we journey through the picturesque Sherpa villages of Benkar, Chumoa, and Monjo, eventually reaching Utche Choling Gompa, perched on a bluff above the Dudhkoshi River. From there, we make our way between the bluffs to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Halfway to Namche Bazaar, we prepare for the second half of the trek, which includes a challenging steep climb. After crossing the last village of Jorsale, we encounter a steep, stepped path that leads us to an incredible high bridge over the Dudhkoshi River gorge. Just before this bridge, the Dudhkoshi meets its tributary, the Bhote Koshi. We then begin the final ascent, slowly climbing to the heights of Namche, where we get our first glimpse of Mt. Everest peeking over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. After about 1.5 km (0.9 miles), we finally reach Namche Bazaar. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Acclimatize At Namche

      Day 5: Acclimatize At Namche

Namche Bazaar, nestled in the Khumbu Himal range at an altitude of 3,420 meters, is the ideal place to spend a rest day for acclimatization before continuing further into the Everest region. As the largest market area for both locals and trekkers, Namche serves as the major trading center and houses the headquarters of Everest National Park. It is also home to the legendary Sherpa community.

Staying in Namche gives a sense of climbing into the high Himalayas, full of anticipation and wonder. Visitors can take a leisurely walk around the valley to help acclimate to the thinner air. Namche Bazaar, often called the gateway to Everest, offers more than just a rest stop. You can visit a local museum to learn about the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. Additionally, the area provides stunning views of Mount Everest and other majestic peaks.

As the name suggests, the hotel offers excellent views of Everest when it’s not shrouded in clouds, making it one of the best viewpoints in the area. Known as the highest located hotel in the world, it adds a unique highlight to the journey.

Afterward, the trail continues over the hill to Khumjung, a more traditional village compared to the tourist-centric Namche. Located at the base of the sacred mountain Khumbila, Khumjung is adorned with Mani Stones and both old and new Stupas. The village is also home to a renowned Gumba (monastery) that is said to house a yeti scalp.
