Itinerary of your trip Northern Ancient Kingdoms Of Thailand 6 Days - Private Tour

  • Day 1 Bangkok โ€“ Ayutthaya โ€“ Lopburi โ€“ Phitsanulok
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Bangkok โ€“ Ayutthaya โ€“ Lopburi โ€“ Phitsanulok

Our adventure commences as we depart Bangkok, heading north towards the enchanting Bang Pa In. Here, we explore the resplendent Bang Pa In Summer Palace, a testament to the fusion of Thai and European architectural styles. Wander through lush gardens, marvel at the Thai pavilion poised on a serene lake, and admire an exquisite all-wood mansion. The artistry extends to immaculately sculpted topiary bushes, fashioned into charming elephant shapes.

Continuing our journey, we venture to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Siam. While the city bore witness to Burmese invasions, remnants of its grandeur endure. Amidst the ruins of temples and palaces, we trace the intricate network of canals and rivers that once fueled Ayutthayaโ€™s prosperity. Immerse yourself in a world of Thai craftsmanship as you peruse stalls brimming with local handicrafts. A sumptuous lunch awaits at a local restaurant.

Post-lunch, our path leads us through picturesque landscapes to Lopburi, the former summer capital of Siam. Lopburiโ€™s antiquity is evident in artifacts dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. During the Dvaravati period from the 6th to the 11th century, it thrived as a prominent town. Witness the grandeur of Phra Prang Sam Yod, a 13th-century laterite block shrine adorned with three majestic spires. A visit to the Kala shrine of Sarn Prakarn, a Buddhist sanctuary from the mid-13th century, offers a glimpse into a temple complex now inhabited by hundreds of playful monkeys.

In the afternoon, our journey continues northward to Phitsanuloke, a town gracefully sprawled along the banks of the Nan River, where charming houseboats find their moorings. At the heart of Phitsanuloke lies the venerated Wat Mahathat shrine, revered across Thailand. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient Thai architectural style, a fitting prelude to the historical wonders that await.

Awakening to a new day, we embark on a voyage through time, tracing the echoes of ancient Thailandโ€™s splendor. Following a hearty breakfast, our journey leads us to Sukhothai, the illustrious 13th-century capital of Thailand. Envision a city safeguarded by an impressive trifecta of earthen ramparts and two encircling moats, cocooning the inner city in protection. As we traverse this historical landscape, marvel at the captivating standing Buddha statues that grace the remnants of temples and monasteries.

Continuing our quest for antiquity, a 55-kilometer sojourn north brings us to Sri Satchanalai, Sukhothaiโ€™s twin city, where the echoes of a bygone era still whisper through the ancient ruins. A midday reprieve unfolds at a local restaurant, where delectable Thai cuisine tantalizes your taste buds.

Mae Salong - Mae Sai - Golden Triangle - Chiang Saen

The enchanting landscapes of northern Thailand beckon us as we embark on a captivating expedition into the realm of colorful hill tribes. Our journey commences with a thrilling ride in "pick-up" vans, navigating winding mountain roads that reveal vistas of unparalleled magnificence. Here, amid the lush embrace of mountains, we venture into several villages, each a tapestry of unique traditions and vibrant cultures.

Our ascent culminates at Doi Mae Salong, a picturesque Chinese settlement steeped in history. Founded by Kuomintang soldiers who sought refuge after Mao Tse Tungโ€™s triumph in 1949, this enclave offers not only breathtaking mountain panoramas but also intriguing Chinese herbal remedies, available for purchase. Our voyage continues with stops at the Akha and Yao Hill Tribe Villages, where time seems to stand still. Here, inhabitants adorn themselves in captivating traditional attire, and their way of life remains beautifully uncomplicated.

Returning to the valley for a well-deserved repast, we refuel our spirits with lunch. Our journey then winds its way to Mae Sai, a vibrant town that graces Thailandโ€™s northernmost reaches, flirting with the Burmese border. Here, you can witness the ebb and flow of Thai and Burmese locals as they traverse the bridge that demarcates the two nations. For those with an eye for craftsmanship, there are ample opportunities to procure Burmese handicrafts at modest prices.

This juncture offers an optional adventureโ€”a border crossing into Burma, where you can embark on an approximately one-hour exploration (SUBJECT TO BORDER SITUATION). Alternatively, you can opt for a leisurely rickshaw ride through the bustling market square. (Please note: Border pass fee and two photocopies of your passport are prerequisites for the Burma Border crossing.)

From Mae Sai, our journey leads to the heart of the renowned Golden Triangle, where the Ruak and Mekong Rivers converge. Stand atop a hill and behold sweeping vistas that encompass Burma, Laos, Thailand, and the mighty Mekong River. An optional boat excursion awaits those eager to draw closer to Laos and Burmaโ€™s shores. We conclude our day with a visit to Chiang Saen, where the remnants of the original 13th-century city still whisper tales of antiquity. Nestled along the tranquil banks of the Mekong River, this charming locale boasts ancient temples adorned with finely carved figures.
