      Jaipur Sightseeing

Jaipur is a very colorful city, established when Maharaja Jai Singh decided to shift his capital from Amber to a new place due to the growing needs of the population.

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II was a visionary ruler and an avid astronomer. He desired a new capital that would reflect both his power as a king and his scientific interests. The location of Jaipur was strategically chosen as it offered better prospects for trade and defense compared to the previous capital, Amber. Jaipur was built in accordance with the principles of Hindu town planning. It is divided into nine rectangular sectors, called chokris, representing the nine divisions of the universe.

The city was initially named "Jai Singh Pura" after its founder, but it was later renamed "Jaipur". To maintain harmony and unity, Jai Singh invited skilled artisans, craftsmen, and merchants from various parts of India to settle in Jaipur. This led to a flourishing arts and crafts industry, with skilled craftsmen specializing in gem cutting, jewelry making, block printing, and miniature paintings. Today, Jaipur has become a paradise for shoppers.

Morning excursion to Amber to visit the Fort of Man Singh, a splendid example of Rajput architecture. The fort, built in a dominant position on the top of a hill, was once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur. En route, take a photostop at Hawa Mahal.

Later, visit the City Palace, a complex of princely buildings that include the private apartments of the Maharaja. Its museum, full of carpets and miniatures, is unique in the world.

Adjacent to the palace is the Astronomical Observatory of Jai Singh, a seventeenth-century astronomical marvel. The observatory includes sophisticated tools for the calculation of eclipses and for detecting the position of stars, as well as the calculation of ascendants. The principal attraction of the building is the 27-meter high sundial, located in the center of the observatory, which can calculate time up to 2 seconds of precision. Time to explore the local handicraft items. Jaipur is famous for textiles and gemstones. Return to the hotel for Overnight.
