      A representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel. At your hotel, you can rest and the wander around Thamelโ€™s narrow streets and buy anything you may need for the trek. Please make sure you bring your passport, three passport-size photos and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy. During this meeting please be prepared to clear any remaining balance, if any, and sign the legally binding trip form as well as the non-liability disclaimer.

      This morning we will take a 45-minute flight to Bhadrapur. While airborne you will have some fantastic views of snow-capped mountains. Bhadrapur has a sub-tropical climate. From here we will drive to, IIlam a hill town famous for its tea plantations and views of Kanchenjunga in the north. At IIlam we will explore the town that is a combination of Hindu and Buddhists.

      This morning we head to Suketar by jeep and cross the Kabeli Khola along a rough stretch of road before arriving at Suketar Village in Taplejung. From Suketar we head out on the undulating trail to Mitlung with its rice paddies and warm climate.

      Today we will follow the Tamor River to Kurumba Village and then on to Mitlung passing several other villages, Tawa, Sinwa Bazaar and then climb to Thiwa Village which is also the entrance to the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. We then head down to Chirwa where we stay the night.

      This morning the trail takes us first to Sukathum village with its fields of cardamom growing near the forest. We then head higher to terraced farmlands before descending to our camp at the small farming village of Lungthang. The temperature is much cooler at this higher altitude. You will also notice the people and their dress to be Tibetan.

      Today we head to the relatively large village of Holung located on the trail to Tibet and surrounded by high mountains. It is also much cooler at this altitude. We then head downhill through beautiful rhododendron, oak and pine forests to Yangma Khola. From here we head north west to Tamar Khola (2,800m) and follow a winding and much wider trail to  Walangchung - Gola also known as Holung. We will stay here for two nights and explore the surrounding area.

      This is a great village to stop and acclimatize. It is recommended we stay active to improve the process. We will spend time exploring the village with its stone houses. The people here are Bhotia that are strongly influenced by Tibetan and Buddhist customs. The villagers here are involved with cross border trade in Tibet. Tibetan and Chinese goods change hands. They bring salt and Chinese products from Tibet in exchange for rice, spices, and pulses from Nepal.

      Today the trailheads to the Tamor Khola that is where the Dinsangba River joins with the larger Tamor River downstream. We then have to cross a wooden bridge and head up to Lumba Sumba ridge through a forested area of rhododendron, pines, oak, and magnolia trees. The trail then descends to Dinsangba Khola which we will follow upstream and pass yak grazing fields and into a large green valley. We continue through to another valley where we will set up camp for the night.

      This morning we head out early to Lumba Sumba La Pass, the highest point of this trek. From the pass we have views of the Eastern Himalayas and Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kumbakarna Himal and the massive ranges of Mt. Kanchenjunga. We then head up to another ridge from where we have views of Mt. Kanchenjunga & Jannu Himal in the east and Makalu in the north west. From here we descend around 600 meters descend to reach down into a broad valley where we will camp the night.

      We are now far from any villages and follow the peaceful trail to Thudam, another village heavily influenced by Tibetan culture. The houses here are mostly stone with pine trimmings โ€“ typical of Tibetan homes in this region.

      Today we head along the banks of the Chujung Khola (river). Along the trail we have some remarkable panoramic views of the Makalu Range. As we head to Kharka we pass through bamboo groves where we may be fortunate to see red panda. We will stay overnight at Kharka.

      A six to seven-hour trek today takes us to Chaurikharka again as we pass through dense Rhododendron forest. We continue and descend until we come to the Arun River where we cross a suspension bridge and then continue on to Chyamthang Village where we stay the night.

      This morning we follow an undulating trail passing through small hamlets and villages before arriving at Hongoan where we will stay overnight.

      This morning we head out on the trail descending to a sub-tropical zone and warmer temperatures. We will follow the Arun River downstream which is fed by a glacier of Mt. Makalu and Barun Himal. The river eventually joins the Sun Kosi River in the Terai region. Tonight we will camp at Hatiya village located on the Tibet trade route.

      On the trail today we will pass many small farming villages and terraced fields. The trail is easy going and heads into the upper Arun River before heading down to the small farming village of Gola where we will stay the night.

      We start the day following the trail to the small Gurung village of Pathibhara and pass through cultivated farmlands until we reach the small trading village of Gadhi where we stay the night.

      Today we descend through farmlands passing many villages along the way. We eventually reach Num, a large village situated on a ridge with views to Makalu and Jaljala Himal in the north.

      This morning we drive to Tumlingtar and the Arun Valley. On the road to Tumlingtar, we pass the villages of Chinchilla, Manebhanjyang, Khandbari and then to Tumlingtar where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 19 Day 19: Fly To Kathmandu And Transfer To Hotel.

      This morning we will take a flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu with panoramic views of the mountains on the way to Kathmandu. After arriving at Kathmandu we will take you to your hotels where you can celebrate the conclusion of this amazing adventure that took you to the north of Kanchenjunga and to Lumba-Sumba. This afternoon you are free to wander around Thamel and maybe do some last-minute shopping before your departure tomorrow.

      A representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will take you to the airport at least three hours prior to your scheduled departure. You will take with you many warm memories of your time in the Kanchenjunga-Lumba-Sumba region. On your journey home you may be having thoughts about a return to an equally remote location in Nepal.
