      Known worldwide for the imposing Quebrada de Humahuaca, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it presents a paradisiacal landscape where the Rรญo Grande runs and interesting archaeological sites framed by hills of different shades stand out.

      La Quebrada is rich in history and traditions, many of which go back to pre-Columbian times. The visitor can enjoy our colorful fiestas, our exquisite wines and foods and acquire some delicious wines with the finest llamasโ€™ lanes.

      This city has a colonial feel. Its narrow cobbled streets, with street lamps and adobe houses, worthy of a walk, were one of the most important commercial centres of Upper Peru until the end of the 19th century.

      Small villages are scattered throughout the area, and their geography alone is worth a visit.

      We are going to cross three departments of the province of Jujuy, Tumbaya, Tilcara and Humahuaca.

      Given the altitude of the tourist sites, it is recommended to walk slowly to avoid any discomfort caused by the large decrease in oxygen that causes people to become "high altitude".

      Breakfast and excursion to Salinas Grandes

      The Salinas Grandes, a perfect landscape to make us believe that we are on a different planet, or in a science fiction story. Everything there is white salt and, when it rains, the cracks in the ground disappear and everything becomes an infinite mirror that reflects everything we do. A unique place; one of the largest depressions in the province with more than 12,000 hectares of open-air salt that dazzles with the infinite vastness of the white color that it comprises.

      At the highest point of the slope, the first panoramic view of the salt mines appears and the view is lost in the white horizon. As we descend to the immense salt plain, we observe the way in which the salt is extracted. This salt mine is a chemical-evaporite sediment that in turn has three types of zones: polygonal salt mine, salt efflorescences and silty salt mine.

      The workers of the place explained to us the process of obtaining washed salt from the pools, salt from scraping and the salt loaves that are molded with picks and axes.

      After a few minutes of contemplation and acquiring some of the souvenirs in salt that the workers carve, we retraced our steps to return from Purmamarca to the hotel by transfer.
